This robust system of post-season bowl games offers rewards for teams and places a great premium on the regular season.

Straight from the official BCS website.

Meanwhile it's says nothing about matching the 2 best teams.

One big flaw, you included alabama's loss but not ok st's. So I guess Iowa st should be in the national champ game then huh?

Not in the NCG like LSU is.

I didn't make the bracket, was sent the link and thought it was funny. Obviously it was made by an OSU fan.

You didn't read the first paragraph:

Straight from the BCS website

The BCS is a five-game showcase of college football. It is designed to ensure that the two top-rated teams in the country meet in the national championship game, and to create exciting and competitive matchups among eight other highly regarded teams in four other bowl games.

I thought this discussion would end when the game was announced.

I don't understand the "every game doesn't count" argument. If Bama hadn't lost on nov. 5 there would have been no debate. If Oregon, OSU, and Stanford hadn't all lost to lesser teams, Bama wouldn't have gotten in. Bama WAS penalized for losing. It's just that all the other teams that had a shot stumbled too.

That's because it doesn't make any sense and falls apart when honestly evaluated.

OP is pretty damn funny.

And here I was thinking you gumps were slow.

Alabama lost, but everyone else who lost, lost worse. Can we get beyond this argument?

The arguing really needs to stop to be honest. The voters voted and this is the result. You can whine and cry about it all you want but what's done is done. Yes, we all know that we didn't win our division or our conference, but it's a moot point now. We dropped in the rankings after our loss on November 5th. The teams between us and LSU also lost between that time and this past weekend which allowed us to move up in the polls. If I remember correctly LSU lost two games in 2007 and went to the National championship. Yes LSU won the SEC that year and would have gone to a BCS bowl game, but the teams at the top lost games before the final BCS polls which allowed LSU to move up in the rankings and thus securing a spot in the NCG.

So, while the situation is not comparable as far as winning the SEC, the situation is very comparable in the two teams moving up in rankings because those ranked higher than them losing.

Is not quite the same as

quote:

The two best teams

It's saying that the BCS was created so that there was no way the #1 team would play against, say the #5 team, while the #2 plays against the #8 (or any other lower ranked team). Who is put in at #1 and #2 is not the concern of the BCS, but of the computer programmers and voters.
