Just confirming what we already knew. Sounds like Sumlin let two self-entitled brats divide his locker room.

Yeah, let's just go ahead and omit that pesky "Wrecking Crew" era. Because....reasons

A&M had a once in a lifetime chance with OU, UT and LSU being either really down and or in probation in the early 90's. They fielded some good teams and cashed that Golden mine into exactly cero National Championships or accomplishments of note outside what was at the time a mediocre SWC.

Once the big boys got their act together A&M helplessly slid into their current and truest form: Nothing.

Murray never sees the field if Allen doesn't play so horribly against Arizona State that Murray needs to come in and soften up the defense.

Well that is one game but I think it was fairly clear that he was promised some playing time. I think that whole situation falls on Sumlin.

We beat the shite out of LSU in the 90s

And we were on probation ourselves in the mid 90s, just like our SWC counterparts.

Sorry to destroy your narrative.

A&M couldn't field a decent Defense with Von Miller in there. This was pre Sumlin. Some programs are just soft, nothing you can do about it.

A&M was extremely thin at LB. When one of our starting LB's tore his achilles in the first quarter in the Cotton Bowl against LSU, had no decent backup to send in.

I tend to agree with Kyle Allen on the culture in Aggy football since Sumlin got there.

I had Sherman and Deruyter's sons in my English class at Consol and they told me after the Cotton Bowl vs. LSU that they were on the field during warmups and our players were so much bigger and athletic than the Aggie players.

Sherman gets run out of town and Sumlin has to get bodies that can compete in the SEC immediately and he probably took a few bad apples. In fact many of the servers, bartenders, & managers at Buffalo Wild Wings in College Station told me that they didn't really like it when the football players would show up. They didn't drink alcohol, but they would cut up, give the servers a hard time and then leave without leaving a tip. Johnny was the worst of all of them. Nobody wanted to serve him and his posse.

Damn. I hope this article doesn't make us play bad in September.

What are we going to do now that he spoke to CBS? Should I still get a sports pass

There is much truth to this. Especially the last two sentences.

Sherman was fired for two reasons:

1. He flat out refused to hire an offensive coordinator.

2. He publicly spoke out against the move to the SEC

When you contradict your boss in public, things will not end well for you.

3. He lost the last game to Texas.

It is funny he acts like he wasn't entitled or part of the problem though. Probably a lot of truth in what he said but as the starting QB for a good portion of 2 seasons he plays a big role in shaping the culture as well

Wrong. Sounds like a mature kid who was smart to leave. aTm needs to fire Sumlin yesterday.

Loftin didn't cite that as a reason they fired him.

Had Sherman gone 11-1, with that one loss being to Texas, he wouldn't have been fired.

From what I remember when I was living there those reasons for his firing are pretty accurate.

That was the biggie. One of the main reasons $Bill got the boot, too, from all accounts.

The fact that he made those comments after his epic collapse against Oklahoma State told me he might not have another season left.

Well that's just not true.

Sherman was going to be fired before that Texas game ever happened. Winning it was not going to save his job at that point.

He was talking about the reasons I stated. Boxer added the t.u. game.

Mature kids don't badmouth their previous coach/employer after they've already left.

Mature kids don't pout and throw a fit when they don't start as true freshmen.

Do you disagree with his characterization of the culture at A&M or do you just disagree that Johnny was the genesis of that culture?

I disagree with him blaming the culture for the team's success or lack thereof when he was a part of the reason for the locker room divide. I disagree with him acting like he knows what went down on teams he didn't play for. I also flat out don't believe him when he says that's why he left. If Spavital was still in College Station and Allen wasn't told he'd have to win the starting job back he'd still be an Aggie.
