Special Bond with AJ and sick little girl

I know there are tons of other stories like this. We need to see more of them. It's better than the flames.

That's good of him to do. Always heard he was a huge douche from my Bama buddies in Mobile. Maybe he isn't so bad after all

He's grown up a ton in the past 18 months.

Now. Make him a Heisman finalist for his off-the-field charity.

When people are that kind to others, they are allowed to have whatever big ugly tattoos they want without being judged as douchebags.

Awesome story. I'm an even bigger fan now than before. I knew about the wrist band, but not the extent to which he has gone since then. Classy kid.

People grow. You don't magically change, but being on your own, dealing with your own problems, has a great effect on some people. Plus, most of these Bama players had some horrible experiences out of the tornados and can relate to crummy circumstances.

I don't mean to get too philosophical, and in the grand scheme of things, at the end of the day, it's AJ who made this little girl happy, but the truth of the matter is it's become the "cool" thing to do to use your local celeb status to visit a sick kid (and the kids don't know any better so the end justifies the means). But, I don't really get why the masses think celebs are great people when they see a story like this. We don't really know anything about them other than someone coordinated them to spend a few hours of their time at the hospital.

I'm not saying AJ is only doing it because of the attention he has (or will get as a result), but when I see things like this it makes me appreciate the lowly folks (foster parents of disabled kids, social workers, special education teachers and teachers' assistants) who dedicate their lives to compassionate endeavors who will never get a news story written about them, never receive a massive (or even decent in some cases) paycheck, and never have their picture on the front page of anything.

Not saying this to bash AJ, but rather emphasize that there are so many out there who do far more but will never receive any recognition. Such is life...

well if I show up at the hospital to visit a sick kid, her parents are going to ask who the frick I am. I think you're over thinking this. There are plenty of athletes and celebrities that don't do anything like this, and there are plenty that do. It's awesome when someone uses that platform they have for good and not bad

Big respect for AJ and the way he has dealt with this family. I hope that Starla can be a normal child after what she's gone through. Two years ago my then three-year-old was diagnosed with cancer and has apparently beaten it through a year of heavy chemo and tumor removal. It was a very trying time and that's with a child who was given good odds to beat it. I still can't imagine having a child go through that with a bad prognosis.
