He is not a SEC caliber coach and they know this. He has lost to every team he has played with a pulse except UGA this year. He has punched one of his players.

Basically he is a miserable failure. He is a choke artist that has peaked.

Or does Tennessee just roll over and take this mediocrity like a pornstar takes it in the arse?

Basically Tennessee is a cuckold'd and Lyle is the husband watching his wife get fricked.

Should they bring back Phil? He is the one who got this shite train rolling though.

Or are they stuck?

They are going to kick arse next year. They have the youngest team in CFB.

Tennessee will never "kick arse" with Lyle as coach.

UT fans are pretty split on it. I think it is because they have seen a quick turnaround by some teams with new coaches like Fla and Michigan and also see that they are not getting blown out which makes them feel they have the talent to compete. I can see both sides. They seem to be better than they were but are frustrated because it has not translated to wins. If they hadn't beaten Uga, there would be a full fledged mutiny.

This is true. On the other hand, had we held on to win against Florida and Oklahoma, they would have demanded an extension.

I was unsold on Jones before the season began, but the fact that this team is 3-4 has made me almost certain that he can't get the job done. Barring catastrophe, he'll get 1 more season.

Vol fans that are down on Butch are trolls or are overly reactionary/irrational.

If we take care of business, we will be 8-4 at the end of the regular season. Another improvement on the year before.

We basically played even games with 3 top 12 teams.

We are the youngest team in the league. We continue to get better every year.

The Butch Jones hate just puzzles me.

I think he knows how to run a program but he's severely botched several games that we should have won in the 4th quarter. I'm behind Butch 100% but his game day coaching has me scratching my head a lot.

I can appreciate your differing opinion, but irrational is losing a double-digit lead in the 4th quarter multiple times.

I am sure that we have become Moral Victory U

Edit: And I don't think we win out even though we absolutely should. We will drop one to Mizzou, UK, or USCe

Butch can recruit and stabilized a program that was in shambles but I don't think he has what it takes to be more than a 8-10 win coach.

He either needs to find coordinators like Fulmer did and let them do their jobs or we will need a new coach to take the next step, imo.

This is pretty much exactly where I am at. Lyle deserves credit for what he has done and I don't think he is completely terrible, just not the type to take that next step.

And I don't think firing him right now is the answer, just don't think he gets it done long-term. My only fear is that recruiting dries up and we are back at square one with the next coach.

I disgree, and if we don't win out then I will be seriously concerned.

But I think we've done alright considering we've had Gaulden, Swafford, Maggit out the majority of the season (all 3 major contributors), lost Tuttle in UGA, lost 3 offensive lineman, have been without our top 3 WRs from last year.

The 2 losses to UF and OU are largely to do with in-game coaching but if we have 1-2 plays in each of those game go our way we're singing a diff tune.

And you look at how we've played since UGA and it's a completely diff picture. If we finish 8-4 and get a bowl win there will be some serious momentum into next year.

Shaking the coaching staff up could help us out but I don't see it happening. Anything less than winning the East next year will result in Butch getting dumped, although I would rather hold onto him until a legit coach is available (if we do part ways). If he's not successful I don't want to fire him just to pick up another up and comer who could be successful but just turns into Dooley.

Couldn't agree more, but UT's name doesn't carry the weight it once did making that home run hire much harder.

I disagree, If he continues to recruit top 15 classes any coach will be interested in coming in. There's a big difference between having to rebuild from the dumpster fire Dooley left behind and having to take over and implement a system with the players Butch has brought in.

This is actually a great post. I will say this about Butch, I was pleasantly surprised that the team did not quit on him after the Arky loss. I was fully expecting the wheels to fall off and the team to pack it in 2012 Dooley style. Tennessee came back from 21 down against UGA and went toe to toe, trading punches with Alabama for 60 minutes.

frick moral victories but I like the fight his players have and the fact that they have never quit on him. That says something imo. Get a better staff of assistants and someone to manage a clock and we might be cooking

No don't fire him... We own him! They may just slip up and get a coach if they fire him.
