Should Manziel be required to pay back his signing bonus?

With news coming out that he even showed up drunk to practice (and the Browns enabling him by covering it up), should he be required to give back his signing bonus, and a significant portion of the salary he's already made?

Coupled with allegations of assault on his ex-girlfriend, is Manziel the biggest bust for a first round player?

He should be required to give them 1 pound of flesh for every practice or meeting missed due to his alcohol/drug problem.

Just kidding. He shouldn't be docked at all because the Browns didn't officially record the incident. Funny thing is all the Aggies saying the Browns are crucifying Manziel when in reality they went out of the way and faced NFL sanctions to keep his problems out of the public eye.

The Browns enabled him and provided a cover-up, he doesn't owe them a dime.

trying to keep a problem secret and lying about it to keep a players potential trade value from cratering isn't helping a person in any way, shape, or form.

Anyone see the 30 for 30 on the 85 Bears? The entire team showed up to practice drunk. Those were the good ole days.

I wish I could show up to work drunk.

Hell, I've only been shitfaced drunk less than a handful of times in my life, and only had one hangover ever. Don't have a drop of alcohol in my house right now.

But the option would be nice

It's much different if the whole team is on board vs one player who has many previous issues showing up intoxicated. Manziel has a drug and alcohol problem and has no regard for his teammates or the organization paying him millions. Hell, he won't even call his own dad back.

I'm not saying the Browns did the right thing. I was just pointing out that they intentionally tried to do Manziel a solid, right or wrong. The JFF defenders will spin it however it suits their interests.

Should he have to pay back the money? No. The NFL knows about that time you let out a silent but violent one in grade school and blamed little Chucky for it. There's no hiding your past from them and they spend a frickton of money predicting your future behavior. The Browns calculated he was worth the risk and they calculated wrong.

Is he the biggest bust? No. Ryan Leaf and countless others say hello. Although he was drafted relatively high, no one ever saw Manziel as a surefire NFL talent at QB. He was a high risk, high reward player from the get go both in terms of his playing style and his personality. There have been far more costly busts out there.

That said, he's probably the biggest bust that everyone saw coming but a team was foolish enough to risk first round money on.

But is Uncle Nate still in the picture? Inquiring minds want to know.
