Saban should wear a full uniform complete with knee-high socks, those small junior high place-kicker shoulder pads and a single-bar helmet.
Miles should do the same although someone would need to be assigned to help him dress so none of it was put on backwards.

I don't know if this is still the rule, but at least with professional baseball the coach back in the day was an eligible player. He rarely played, but there are a few cases where the coach played due to injury or other circumstances.

My understanding of why baseball managers wear uniforms is that back in the day they were all player/managers as you alluded to. Obviously now managers are not on the active roster.
