I'm not a troll, in fact I rarely post despite being here for over 6 years - but I have a question.

Why do so many of your fans think that the firing of your coach has made the rest of the SEC scared? Even if you make a good hire, you'd agree it normally takes a few years for a coach to get their recruits in, establish a culture, etc.

In my opinion, it's not unreasonable to think the next few years are going to be dicey for LSU. It's possible for LSU to hire a new, dominant coach that starts destroying the SEC West, but it's not probable is it? Let's just look at major programs that have hired new coaches in the last few years - how have they fared? ND? USC? Florida? Oregon? Penn State? Texas? What makes LSU immune to these pitfalls?

I just don't understand this seemingly false sense of security LSU fans are demonstrating.

those programs were in shambles compared to LSU's current state. We have everything in place to compete for a national title every year except a head coach. Many of those coaches that were hired at the schools you listed would have been far more successful if they were coaching at LSU

They don't even believe that. It's whistling past the graveyard.

The fact that you never post and are asking this question today proves our point. You and most Bama fans here are petrified. And I understand that. Saban has five good years left tops. The game is soon to leave him behind. LSU is about to be on the cutting edge with the best talent per capita in the nation. It's not looking good for the SEC West and the rest of the conference. But you will learn to accept it with time.

I hate to agree with an Aggie but you are 100% correct. It may be years before we see improvements. We will never be what Bama is now (no one will). We may not improve much at all. But you can't honestly believe LSU was going to be ok keeping Les. Given one or two more years, it was going to get ugly. Hell, this year could have been ugly. Not that it still can't after he's gone.

Ok... but those all those "things" you have in place are directly or indirectly connected to your head coach, yes? Recruiting?

I'd expect LSU to shed quite a few players and commits, as per usual after a coach's departure, which would further set back the program.

The head coach is not the end-all-be-all, but it's usually the foundation which the team is built. You can have all the talent in the world, but without direction and leadership, won't be doing much.

see - Texas Tech and Mike Leach.

We have a lot of immature fans, like any fan base.

A 17-21 year old Tiger fan, for example, has no memory of a losing season (last one was 1999). We have some spoiled fans, especially the younger generation.

But the older, wiser fans have some guarded optimism for 2 main reasons:

1) We have been 2nd only to Bama in West vs. West winning percentage since 2011. This has happened with a completely outdated offense. The idea is that modernizing the offense, while maintaining a solid defense, should improve the team as a whole.

2) Louisiana produces the 7th most NFL players of any state in the country, and LSU is the only Power 5 school in Louisiana. We have a competitive advantage there and a top level coach should be able to use it to put us in contention for SEC titles and playoff berths regularly.

I completely agree that in time, LSU can and will be on top again. It just usually doesn't happen immediately, which so many seem to think is likely. I'm not even mad, just dumbfounded.

When A&M hired Sumlin, myself and most of the level headed Ags I know weren't expecting much for a couple of years. Modest improvements every year are reasonable.

A month ago we were returning 18 starters and projected by many to make the playoff. We are not in shambles. We have talent to win a NC. We just need a new Head Coach

You know, that whole Gus coming in and going to a natty his first year. It can happen.

By the way, 2013 was the worst thing to ever happen to Gus.

They aren't. Firing a successful coach is always a crapshoot.

Yeah, but in 2006, how many LSU fans would have said that Alabama at that time was even a top 10 job? The bottom line is that LSU doesn't have to be a top 5 coaching destination. The next coach can still have incredible success.

Because they are dumb AF.

Hell, Saban lost to ULM early at UA, then rumor has it that he lost to Utah in the Sugar Bowl although I have no recollection of such a game.

And that's the best coach in the game.

Most have nowhere near the success that he had.

I guess LSU fans think they will hire someone who will come in like Miles did, and back in to a NC with Saban's players.

The law of averages says otherwise.

This is what I'm talking about. My posting rate has nothing do with my level of "fear," rather than when I find a topic worth discussing. I don't give a shite about the whole trolling/shite talking culture that is prevalent here.

I think this is one of those reverse melts I've heard about. Where you're panic is masked by unjustifiable confidence.
