Serious question about the livelihood of CFB...

Is Alabama ruining the sport.
As a Bama fan I love our successes. But not at the expense of the whole sport. If Saban keeps coaching five more years or so we could all see the end of college football. lol I'm high

if you win the title this year it will be deserved.
it's not going to be easy with your q.b.

It's not if they play like he has last two games. But Frick it I want to win every year

Did the 90s Bulls run ruin the NBA? Nope.
Alabama's issue is that after Julio Jones, there hasn't been much star power on the team. AJ McCarron is the last well known QB, and even then I'm not sure he was that widely known. Saban brings in talent that makes them be a team player, not an individual. That's great for the program, but it's hard to market that to a national audience outside of Alabama and our region.

Co-worker and I were talking about this the other day
With the exception of Julio Jones, C.J. Mosley and Amari Cooper, Bama hasn't put a ton of top-tier NFL players. They have over 50 players in the league now, which is insane, but isn't it crazy how they stockpile this talent and kill it in college, but it doesn't seem to translate for a lot of them.

Much different than Alabamas situation. Alabama players are there 3-4 years not decades like the Bulls players were. Im asking myself HOW can one college team be this dominant where they control recruiting, the game, a every major stats column.... All while rotating players every couple years?

No other coaching staff in the SEC has been able to change up the system and make an impact in each of these areas. Ole Miss got the closest with recruiting and an innovative scheme on offense, but they weren't able to sustain beyond 2-3 years. Auburn has had a year of success and then average success in other seasons. LSU can recruit at the level of Bama, but their coaching hasn't been close to their level. TAMU lacks the defense to beat Alabama, and coaching is subpar.

The playoff is doing more damage to CFB than anything Bama could do.

Ruining the SEC not the sport.
No good coaches want to match their wits against Saban, and Saban provides an unrealistic benchmark for current coaches at schools with high expectations. In fact, I think the SEC West is caving in on itself because of those expectations.
Somebody has to lose, it won't be Saban, so the losses must be spread around amongst programs with those high expectations.

It's not helping CFB but it's temporary. When Saban leaves, balance will be restored.
The real question is how will Bama fans define "success" when they aren't winning the title every season.

Yeah, it's gonna suck for a bit. That is why I just live in the moment and know that this is something special to witness. When it is over, I will look back with fond memories.

you guys have a good shot at another title but, this year will be a little tougher.
if I was a betting man, id take bama. however, I see the field will be tough enough to where you will have to bring the A game.

As the old saying goes: "pigs get fat, but hogs get slaughtered"
Too much domination will bring more negative attention. Many more eyes looking for things to be critical of and perhaps NCAA violations.
So sure, go on and win, but just not too much.

You and your co-worker need to go back and take another look.
Landon Collins...leading tackler for the Giants, also leads in INTs with 5.
Ha Ha Clinton-Dix...leads the Packers in INTs
Mark Barron...2nd for the Rams in tackles and 10th in the league.
Eddie Lacy...on his way to his third 1,000 yard season when he got hurt.
Kareem Jackson...2nd for the Texans in tackles, also with an INT.
Kenyan Drake with a KR return and another long TD run to win two games for the Dolphins.
Mark Ingram is the Saints leading rusher, averaging over 5 yards a carry, and will go over 1,000 yards.
Ryan Kelly has started from day 1 at C with the Colts.
Derrick Henry is backing up the #3 rusher in the league and is doing very well...there's no reason to believe he won't be a star.
I could go on...but you get the idea.

Bamas dominance has dented my interest in CFB. I still love the sport but it's not as compelling as it was before Saban.

You're right, Bama is really struggling in merchandise sales. Look it up, the program is hemorrhaging money because the brand is so weak.
OP is right too, college football is barely bringing in any money or TV ratings anymore. Who cares if by any objective metric it's never been a more lucrative industry? College football is dying, I tell you!
This forum never ceases to amaze and inspire.

They had an assistant coach bring a briefcase across state lines to a recruit's home where he met with a kid's handler... During the dead period ... The coach then lied to their compliance dept about all of it ... He was fired and then paid almost 3x his salary as severance and no one in Indianapolis batted an eye... Seriously .. That happened this calendar year.
Alabama and LSU are untoucable as long as Emmert is running the show.
