SEC's Sankey Shuts Door On Division Realignment Chatter

HOOVER, Ala. -- There’s been no talk of Southeastern Conference divisional realignment within the league office, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said during his address to reporters Monday to kick off SEC media days at the Wynfrey Hotel.
“It has not been an agenda item in a meeting,” Sankey said.
Sankey said the conversation of alignment comes up “at most large press conferences in which I appear.”
“That’s the extent of the conversation,” Sankey added.
This isn’t the first time that Sankey has said that realignment is a nonstarter. The topic has come up in the media the past couple years. Talk of realignment usually revolves around Missouri flipping from the East to the West and Auburn moving from the West to the East.
The discussion got new life in May, when Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs told reporters at the SEC meetings in Destin, Fla., that “maybe it’s time to look at” division realignment. Additionally, Auburn coach Gus Malzahn reportedly told ESPN’s Chris Low in April that he wouldn’t be opposed to realignment, although he didn’t lobby for the change.
Sankey shot down the idea at the SEC spring meetings and doubled down on Monday.
