per Chuck Dunlap SEC Communications Director.
Of note on 2015 schedule: Calendar goes back to 13 playing weeks, meaning one open date per team. Has been 14 weeks/2 open last 2 seasons.

I thought we've only had two bye weeks for this year only?

What is the benefit of switching it back?

as long as it's on 10/24 I'm happy

Alabama gets 2 of course.

Bama get upset that Arky had a BYE week?

Thank God. Two bye weeks for a 12 game schedule is absurd. NFL has 1 bye week for a 16 game schedule. Next thing they need to do is outlaw games vs. FCS schools.

WTF?
ACC has 2 BYE weeks per team
B12 has 3 BYE weeks per team
B1G has 2 BYE weeks per team
PAC has 2 BYE weeks per team
SEC going to just 1 seems a huge disadvantage to the other 4 conferences.

This has to do with where Labor Day (the 1st weekend of the season) falls.
Last 3 years the first day of September has been on Sat, Sun or Mon causing the Labor Day weekend to be earlier in the month (on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd) and not later (4th through 7th) therefore pushing the season start back a weekend in the calendar year.
Next year the 1st of Sept. will be on Tuesday, pushing the game to the first weekend in September (aka Labor Day).
One less Saturday between Labor Day and Thanksgiving due to when Sept. 1st falls in the week (Tuesday).

How can the SEC have fewer bye weeks than the conferences with championship games? Start later or championship game a week early?
I was hoping this extra week would be a catalyst for us to moving to 13 games.

So you are saying everybody adjusts as well?
ACC = 1 BYE week per team in 2015
B12 = 2 BYE weeks per team in 2015
B1G = 1 BYE week per team in 2015
PAC = 1 BYE week per team in 2015
SEC = 1 BYE week per team in 2015
Yet another reason the B12 is over rated.

It's an NCAA thing not specific to conferences. The season starts labor day and ends the week after Thanksgiving. The last couple of years there has been an extra week just because of how the calender falls.
Big 12 doesn't have a conference championship game so they can stretch their season out to the first week after Thanksgiving. PAC 10 used do the same.

awesome. I hate bye weeks.

Very necessary though. Lsu was running on fumes going into the championship game in 2005
