The Roommate Switch

Nobody likes the 6-1-1 format. The SEC is the best conference because everybody wants to play everybody else as much as possible. Nobody is looking for the easy path (big difference from other conferences btw). Going to a 6-1-2 format is no better, IMO. The Roommate Switch plan solves everybody's issues with very minimal pain or sacrifice. Take a few minutes and check this out, and hats off to the guy behind this.

* preserves SEC championship game and divisional round-robin play
* play every SEC team at least every other year
* complete a home & home with every SEC team every 4 years
* preserves the historic annual SEC rivalry games (Bama/Tenn, Iron bowl, Egg bowl, AU/GA, GA/FL, Etc.)
* works in either an 8 or 9 game SEC schedule

The ONLY thing that will take some getting used to is the fact that this format has "odd year" and "even year" divisions. Instead of having a East and West Division champ, there would simply be the SEC champ and then a Division Champ (whichever division champ loses in the SEC championship game).

Don't get bogged down in how it works... Just look at YOUR team's schedule for the odd years and even years. Chances are you will like what you see. Then look at other team's schedules and you will find they are all pretty comparable.

Something has to give to make 14 teams work....might as well just be the East/West titles for the divisions.

BTW - I'm new here so if this has already been thrown around take it easy on me. I'm just glad to be home in the SEC.

Honestly, this is the first schedule-related thread I've seen on this board all year.

One of these is definitely not like the others.

I found and posted this on a couple of boards when TAMU and Mizzou joined the conference and there was so much schedule talk. Only got much good conversation on one board.

To those who didn't read it, you should, this is far, far, FAR and away the best schedule solution anyone has put forward, hands down. It isn't close. This solution is awesome.

If anyone on here has any kind of connection to someone who can get this to the right people, DO IT.

I agree but let LSU-Bama play every year and USC AND State can play every year.

The composition of the pods could probably be played with a little bit, but the idea behind it is fantastic.

I like it, my only complaint would be USC as our permanent instead of Auburn. If we could play Auburn, Georgia and Tennessee every year and rotate everything else, I would be perfectly happy. But overall, it is a pretty smart idea, now if only the people in the SEC would be willing to think outside of the box a little.

The concept is what is important here. This shows that it CAN be done and that there is a much better way than the 6-1-1. I figure Slive & Co. Can hash out the details on the pod configurations, etc. But this shows a little creativity and outside the box thinking.... and IT WORKS.

Every fan will have their gripes, but I think this plan is something everybody could be happy with

Hard to get good conversation when many people only want to argue. The flame threads get bumped the most. Most won't even take time to read the link. Hell most won't even read through a thread.

Fans of opposing teams argue on a sports message board?

I bet you've never stooped so low.

This is best way I have seen it get fixed because it attacks the real problem.

I would be a little bitter about not playing Florida, auburn and bama every year but can't have your cake and eat it too

isn't the primary problem with this type of schedule that you can end up with 3 or more undefeated teams that haven't played each other?

No because the division play would not allow 3 undefeated teams. This format keeps two divisions.
