According to Fox Sports' Aaron Torres:

quote:

SEC hoops should start next year expecting to get at LEAST 7 teams into the tourney: Kentucky, Arkansas, Bama, A&M, Florida, Vandy + Mizzou

I think he's pretty spot on with this. Mizzou is a tough one to decide on though. They could be really good, or they could be like LSU with Simmons. Pretty good list.

7 teams is half the league. That would be nice to see, but not sure about it at this time.

Kentucky, Arkansas, Florida seem to be sure things for the tourney when you look at what they all bring back from this years team.

Then there is the mix of Alabama, Tennessee, Missouri, Vanderbilt, aTm that should be much improved, but everyone needs to see it first before saying those teams are tourney type teams. Vanderbilt loses a bit of talent, but still has some talent remaining off this years team. So, I would likely have them at the top of this group.

Then you have South Carolina and what all they lost. They have to replace some key players and this may be the toughest coaching season for Martin yet. Trying to follow up such a successful season even though the losses hurt production on the offensive end.

Going to be interesting to see how SC does next season.

Frank is out trying to get one more player for next season. It looks like we are targeting a transfer from Wright State and a guy from New Jersey who is deciding to either come to SC or go spend a year at a prep school, Brewster Academy.

Frank is also replacing his top assistant, who left for Austin Peay.

Yes it is. I think it will be Martin's hardest season coaching at Carolina so far. Trying to replace what you guys lost, while also following up the most successful season in school history.

Yes, we lost Thornwell, our best player by far and certainly best on offense, and we lost Notice, arguably our best defender and our 3 point specialist. Both to graduation.

Then we lost PJ Dozier to the draft.

So, that's 3 starters. We do return our bigs, which is nice.

It's hard to say. I don't think we'll be as good next year and the SEC looks to be on the upswing so it could get rough.

Losing that much talent will knock your team back a few steps, look at the Razorbacks a few years ago for an example.

That having been said, recruiting is much easier going into a rough season after an amazing Final 4 run then it is after a 12 win season.

If I had to gaze into the old crystal ball I'd say its a rebuild year with an shot at the NIT. The year after that, with good recruiting and development, is probably a more likely year for another NCAAT bid. I would still say USC is on the upswing though... it is a lot easier to get kids to commit to your program when you can show that you've been to the promised land already.

Every year we hear things like this and every year the SEC gets in 3 or 4 teams, and sometimes 5.

I didn't see this. Feel like that is a terrible decision for him

SC should be that wiry/tenacious team that is a tough out but end up like 17-13 or 16-14

In all seriousness, if Wade can add a big time transfer like Alstork (slim chance), he certainly has the ability to coach that team up to be close to a bubble team. He is trying to win next year, and not just sit around and wait and build his own team over a few years. Guys like Hayward and Jenkins leaving who were non contributors and being replaced with guaranteed contributors is a nice step in the right direction. I wouldnt be surprised to see ER III replaced as well.
