if SEC scheduling seems sporadic for playing divisional teams now, its quite uniform for how things used to be. Kentucky and Alabama met at Legion Field that night for the first meeting between the two since 1947. Kentucky's coach in 1947 when the two last played? Paul W. "Bear" Bryant.

Alabama won that game in 1972,35-0. This would be the last season for UK Head coach John Ray, who had be Ara Parseghian's defensive coordinator on Notre Dame's 1966 NC team.

I would like to play Kentucky more often. I want to visit Lexington. One of two East teams I haven't made it to, along with Georgia.

Anther good one I-59.

Another note to the next UA-UK football game. Bryant, having been at UK was well aware of how football facilities were. When Bama had the previous time visited Lexington, The Cats were still playing at Stoll field which was way below standards and frankly, a dangerous venue. Bryant, at the urging of some UK boosters and his still affection towards how UK football was being treated, told UK officials he would not bring Bama back until they had a new stadium, hence Commonwealth was born in 73.
