SEC champion in Chick Fil A or Cotton Bowl under playoff system.

According to SaturdayDownSouth.com the new playoff system will have feature 6 "Access Bowl"....the 4 current BCS bowls and most likely the Cotton Bowl and Chick Fil A Bowl.
They also say that in years where the SEC champion is not in the playoff (if that ever happens) that champion could be sent to the Cotton or Chick Fil A bowls.
Do you all think the country will get behind the Cotton Bowl and Chick Fil A bowl as a "big time bowl game"? I think the Cotton is fine but the Chick Fil A bowl.....at first glance it seems like a slap in the face to the SEC champ especially considering that team would probably play the top "other 5 conference" champion or an at large school lower than a non playoff SEC champ.

They are wrong.

The cotton bowl has had some pretty high ranked teams in recent years. Outside of maybe the capital one bowl it has had probably the best matchup save the BCS games. Now that Jerry world hosts the game the venue is superior to anything any other bowl can provide and TV exposure is not problem being it is located in the major market of DFW versus being in the West Coast time slots. Jones has pulled a lot of stops to match up premier programs in regular season games the last few seasons and he is building towards making the Cotton bowl a big time game again.

i am nervous about this new playoff thing. i think the mood around college football is how do we screw the sec. the sec champ will rarely be undefeated after having to play 4 top ten teams in teh regualr season (oh, i guess bama doesn't have to play but 2) so get ready for the acc champ, big 10 champ, notre dame and boise state to make the game every year. oh, and since the big 12 doesn't have but one or decent teams and they have no league championship game, they'll be at the table too.

Bowls move up and down in prestige all the time.
For example, Alamo used to be one of the lowest bowls and now it gets the #2 Pac10 and #3 Big 12.

No one really knows, but I assume you have talked to relevant sources like president and committee members.

However, ESPN has reported that “when the Rose and/or Sugar bowls are hosting the semifinals” and the SEC champion is not in the playoff, that team may be assigned to one of the lesser bowls”–the Fiesta, Chick-fil-A or Cotton—“to increase the worth of that bowl.”
While ESPN is usually not a great source.....smoke, fire...you know.

They wrong. Ever heard of the new Sugar Bowl, aka the Champions Bowl? The SEC also has a new deal with the Orange Bowl along with the Big 10. In the new format they are going to take the ACC champion vs an SEC/Big 10/Notre Dame team every year.

An LSU fan with sand in their vagina? No it couldn't be, we've never seen that before on the Rant

Oh I don't have a problem with the Cotton stepping up to a "BCS" type bowl game, and I think the rest of the country would accept it pretty quickly.
The Chick Fil A bowl could be a different story.....I mean a corporate named bowl (yea I know it was the Peach Bowl) just don't have the same appeal as the Sugar, Rose, Orange, Fiesta, and Cotton bowls. I mean hell the Fiesta Bowl is still looked down on by a lot of people.

Everybody knows. Did you miss the whole Champions Bowl thing?

Did you miss the ACC announce that the SEC could possibly play in the Orange bowl against the ACC champ.
The Champions Bowl aka Sugar Bowl pretty much only comes into affect when the Sugar Bowl is not a playoff site.
I mean with all of these back room deals that are happening now......it wouldn't surprise me if the non playoff bowls got together and just selected whoever the wanted based on no criteria....similar to what happens now with at large bids.

LOL......If you believe that then you are crazy. Everybody know what they think they have been told. This is going to be over ran with back room deals and lined pockets my friend.

No, I didn't miss that. I referenced that in this thread. The Big XII champ (or replacement) and the SEC champ (or replacement) are going to play in the Sugar/Champions Bowl. The Orange Bowl is the opportunity for a second guaranteed bowl for the SEC. It will match the ACC champ vs a team from the Big 10, the SEC, or Notre Dame.

Right the Champions Bowl played at the Sugar Bowl between the SEC champion and the Big 12 champion.
However, one year when the Sugar Bowl hosts a playoff game the "Champions Bowl" gets convinced that it would be better to let a non playoff UF SEC champ play Florida St in the Chick Fil A Bowl to save the strength of that bowl. This also sends the Big 12 champ Texas to the Fiesta to play Boise St in a huge grudge match for the Big 12 vs Boise.
That scenario is still very real in this circumstance. I don't see the SEC champ vs the Big 12 champ set in stone even if both don't make the championship playoffs.
It is crap....basically.

So Cotton/Fiesta/Peach/Sugar/Orange/Rose are the only relevant bowls. Got it.

Also, we still don't know exactly what type of committee is going to choose the playoff teams.
I'm sure they are going to f that up......they f'd up the NCAA tourney selection committee for years.

You are close to seeing exactly what I see with this "new" system.
A lot of smoke and mirrors to get to basically the same place we are today.

Nothing is really supposed to change about the bowl system. Basically the same thing, just with a four team playoff. What exactly do you expect?

I'm surprised to see Peach/Chick Fil A getting above Cap One. The Cotton Bowl honestly got caught as a victim of circumstance when the BCS started. It has a great history with many NC games and was of course the home of the SWC Champ for so long. It's also one of the older bowls. Now that it is in Jerryworld honestly it is more of a spectacle than the Fiesta and maybe the Orange imo.
The Champions Bowl has nothing to do with the SEC and B12 Champs playing each other, that's just a front. It's about A) A money grab. B)A hedge against the BCS and playoff system going a different way than the SEC wants. and C)A way for the SEC to stabilize the Big 12 while weakening the ACC because if the next set of realignment hits the SEC will want ACC teams. They already got what they wanted from the Big 12 and now the Big 12 is stable but also permanently weaker than the SEC by a good margin.
As a side note. I would love for the SEC to get in on the Alamo Bowl. That's my favorite bowl I've been to besides the Sugar. It's always a night game for one. It's in San Antonio which is a great city to visit for two. It's at the Alamodome which isn't super sexy inside but is walking distance from the Riverwalk so you get to hang out at the River and get drunk and eat Tex Mex all day and then still be able to stumble back to your hotel after the game. It's kind of like the Sugar Bowl lite with a Mexican flair. Houston Bowl is probably more realistic. Reliant is a better venue but Houston isn't nearly as much fun as SA.
