still early but lets take a look at the early leading candidates

Ben Simmons
Stats:
20.3/5.3/12.6
.574 FG% .333 3FG% .750 FT% .629 TS% .577 eFG%
29.8 AST% 14.9 TOV% 19.6 TRB% 26.2 USG%
127 ORtg 93.4 DRtg 2.6 OWS 1.2 DWS .282 WS/40 33.9 PER

Ben is the definite front runner. after there being a frick ton of hype before he even played a single minute, he has been able to show the hype was warranted. while he does have some weaknesses (not the best perimeter scorer) he has still been able to take over games through many different ways (not only does he score, but he is in the top 10 for AST% in the conference) and has an impressive slash line of 20 points and 12 rebounds as a freshman. he is the best offesnive and defensive player in the conference as a freshman as he leads in both offensive and defensive win shares, win shares over 40 minutes, and is top 20 in DRtg and top 5 in ORtg

Stefan Moody
Stats:
24.4/4.1/3.1
.423 FG% .372 3FG% .859 FT% .588 TS% .508 eFG%
27.0 AST% 14.9 TOV% 4.7 TRB% 33.3 USG%
117.9 ORtg 105.7 DRtg 2.3 OWS 0.6 DWS .208 WS/40 26.1 PER

Stefan is the SECs leading scorer at 24.4 points a game. he is versatile and can get to the rim while also pulling up and hit some threes. he is the definition of a high volume scorer and doesnt have the best field goal percentage to go with his many points. while he is an elite scorer, his defense can use some work as shown by his DRtg of 105.7

Tyler Ulis
Stats:
14.2/6.0/3.3
.401 FG% .292 3FG% .861 FG% .543 TS% .466 eFG%
28.8 AST% 13.6 TOV% 5.1 TRB% 20.1 USG%
123.4 ORtg 100.8 DRtg 1.7 OWS 0.8 DWS .189 WS/40 19.8 PER

while not being the most prolific or efficient scorer, tyler more than proves his worth and value by how he facilitates. he is second in both total assists and assists per game while also being top 10 in AST% while also keeping his TOV% down. if kentucky is going to be able to make a run, they are going to need him to continue to be able to facilitate as well as he has

Jalen Jones
Stats:
17.6/0.7/6.6
.483 FG% .448 3FG% .776 FT% .577 TS% .526 eFG%
5.3 AST% 7.6 TOV% 13.2 TRB% 29.1 USG%
120.9 ORtg 94.3 DRtg 1.2 OWS 0.7 DWS .234 WS/40 24.7 PER

jalen had to miss the first four games this year and has really come on to the scene ever since SEC play started. he is a high usage player like stefan and he is also an efficient scorer. he also plays good defense with a top 20 DRtg for the conference. if he continues playing as well as he has, he will be in the mix for POTY. like ben, he is a mix of both lethal scorer and talented defender and is second to ben in win shares over 40 minutes

Good post

Simmons is the clear leader for this but I hope LSU can finish with under 10 losses and make the tourney

Kareem Canty has comparable stats, but plays on a shite team, so it's probably a moot point.

But, he isn't on the list. Which is my point.

He isn't a dark horse. He averages 17.2 per game, nearly 10 boards a game and leads the league in blocked shots.

He is a legit SEC POY candidate at this point.

The only legit candidate is Simmons. Everyone else on the list is just a shoutout.

Kingsley would be my #6. Maten #7.

Assuming you've not seen Moses play this season. Probably the best big in the league.

Simmons will win it. Hope we get to see him play in the NCAA tournament.

Moody is the most valuable player to his team. 42% is pretty solid considering his volume of shots.

His ability to convincingly dunk at his height should earn him some brownie points as well

I like Moody. My only knock on him is he gets a little out of control sometimes.
