If it wasn't John Calipari.

My list would go:

1. Andy Kennedy - Ole Miss is pretty lacking on talent, definitely no NBA talent nor really any bigs that pose a threat...yet they are 10-4 in the league and in great position for a decent seed in the tournament when everyone wrote them off after Henderson left

2. Billy Kennedy - Like Ole Miss, doesn't really have much talent...Danuel House and Jalen Jones were key transfers for them that seemingly has ignited them into the tourney conversation at 10-5 in the SEC, big land for Kennedy in the off-season...without those 2 aTm might be down there with the dregs

3. Mike Anderson - Finally has Arkansas where they should be at 12-3 in the conference. Has a few experienced NBA talented guys at his disposal in Portis and Qualls as well as very quality depth including what looks to be budding young star in Anton Beard and the much underappreciated Rashad Madden and Anthlon Bell

I don't think it's John Calipari. He has a dynasty over the SEC and all the talent wants to be at Kentucky. IMO Andy Kennedy has done a great job as well as Anderson.

I can live with that list. In fact, while I think Calipari has done a solid job juggling all the talent on his roster, I think all three of those coaches are deserving of Coach of the Year along with Cal.

I'm not saying Donnie Tyndall should win it, but he needs to be in the discussion.
This team was not expected to have more than 2-3 SEC wins. He has worked a minor miracle with a disaster of a roster.

They have a ton of talent. At least 5 4*s on their roster, including legit 5* House.

But he has done a good job coaching regardless.

Beard has been amazing overall, Bell has been good too, Madden has been better as of late. Madden can be the most unnerving player on the team but he works hard and he's ours- I wish he'd get to be the man in a game before the season is over, he deserves it.

Keeping any team motivated to win every single game is an accomplishment that I believe should be awarded. I hate Cal but I think he absolutely deserves COTY.

If Cal goes undefeated, give it to him. If not, AK should get it. This team wasn't expected to do shite.

It should be awarded, but is it a better accomplishment than taking a group of project players because you don't have the facilities/tradition of UK and melding them into a top team in the SEC?

I wanna say Cal, but Donovan did it last year. It's only supposed to be based on the SEC season so I lean towards AK or MA personally. Even Donnie T should get a look if they make a decent run in the SECT.

I mentioned House, and edited in Jalen Jones, but neither are NBA type talents. Who else is a 4-star besides Alex Caruso who you wouldn't really call very good? 247 is showing none that are on their team currently (composite)

Ask Ben Howland how easy it is to
manage talented egos as a coach. It may not be the same thing that other programs are dealing with, but the management of the hype/pressure and the egos is still coaching all the same. Let's also not forget that his team is likely going to set some historical defensive records as well. He's easily underrated for how good of a defensive coach he is and getting kids fresh off the AAU highlight circuit to buy into defense.

Either way Billy Kennedy or Andy Kennedy would be good choices as well.
