A look at how man weeks each SEC Team has spent as AP #1 along with most recent appearance:

Alabama - 73 weeks (2014)
Florida - 41 weeks (2009)
LSU - 30 weeks (2011)
Tennessee - 18 weeks (1998)
Georgia - 15 weeks (2008)
Auburn - 9 weeks (2010)
Texas A&M - 7 weeks (1957)
Mississippi State - 5 weeks (2014)
Ole Miss - 5 weeks (1968)
Missouri - 2 weeks (2008)
Arkansas - 1 week (1965)

No surprise that Alabama dominates this. I am surprised by Auburn only spending 9 weeks in the top spot. South Carolina, Kentucky and Vandy have never been AP #1.

Would have thought Tennessee would be higher.

Does that mean Bama can claim 73 national titles?

Kentucky was ranked #3 going into their last game of the season in 1950, and lost to UT 7-0. #2 Army lost their last game of the season to Navy and UK went on to beat #1 Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl. I guess that was as close as Kentucky has ever gotten.

Many of our National Title seasons we lingered around 2-5 and didn't' take the top spot till really late in the year.
