After working so hard to get back from his injury in 2010 he landed awkwardly at practice today and was carted off after screaming in pain. Rumor is he might have torn both patella tendons...which might be career threatening. I know this isn't the right board but thought this was notable since he was such a promising player his first 3 seasons

2nd to last play of the scrimmage, came down wrong on the same knee he injured at Arkansas.

Career is up in the air now.

Terrible news indeed.

Both knees? I've never ever heard of a player hurting both knees at the same time.

Doesn't look good:

quote:

MANKATO, Minn. -- Greg Childs screamed in pain as he hit the ground and left the field on a cart after suffering what two NFL sources said late Saturday night were believed to be significant injuries to both of his knees.

An MRI was not complete as of midnight, hours after the rookie receiver was injured on the penultimate play of the Minnesota Vikings' annual night practice at Blakeslee Stadium.

But sources said Childs' knees were swollen and the worst-case scenario was he might have ligament damage in addition to tearing both of his patella tendons -- the same injury he suffered to one of his knees as a junior at the University of Arkansas in 2010.

Childs was leaping for a deep ball thrown by McLeod Bethel-Thompson when he hit the ground hard and untouched, with cornerback Corey Gatewood trailing the play. His left knee appeared to take the brunt of the impact, but he initially grabbed his right knee as he rolled to his side.

Patellar tendon tears are painful. Mostly because that's what is holding your kneecap in place and when that tears it will completely come out of its groove.

Kid has a long road to recovery. I doubt he'll play again. Sad stuff.

Terrible news....it's crazy that such an extensive injury can happen, when all he essentially was doing was jumping up for a pass and then landing untouched. I'd understand it more if another player came down on his knees or something I guess, but either way it's tough news....
