Saban has not done well historically when his team's been ranked #1 in the polls for four or more weeks.
2003- Beat Oklahoma as the #2 ranked team, was never ranked #1 in the polls until the final rankings after the season
2008- Spent four weeks at #1, lost to Florida in the SEC Championship as the #1 ranked team
2009- Spent only two weeks at #1, beat Florida in the SEC Championship Game as the #2 ranked team, beat Texas in the BCS NCG as the #1 ranked team
2010- Spent six weeks at #1, ended up losing three games that year
2011- Beat LSU as the #2 ranked team, was never ranked #1 in the polls until the final rankings after the season
2012- Spent nine weeks at #1, beat Notre Dame in the BCS NCG
2013- Spent 12 weeks at #1, Lost to Auburn in the famous "Kick-Six" game and Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl
2014- Spent four weeks at #1, Lost to Ohio State in the CFP Semifinal
2015- Beat Clemson as the #2 ranked team, was never ranked #1 in the polls until the final rankings after the season
Saban has won four of his five national championships when his team was ranked #2 into the game.
Three of his national championship teams were never ranked #1 in the polls until the final rankings after the season.
Saban's had five seasons when his team was ranked #1 in the polls for at least four weeks. He's only won a national championship in one of those seasons (2012). Not only that, Saban has a 2-3 bowl record in those years.

The NC teams didn't spend many weeks at #1 largely because all of them had a loss except for 2009, when defending champ Florida won it's first 12 games until losing to him.
This is kind of a weak trend.
The better indicator is to ask yourself, does he have a better team than the other playoff contenders. I'd say there's a 60%+ chance he wins the next three games.

Some things never change.
TBH. We could go 0-11 next year and I'd shrug. We've (bama) seen more championships in the past 10 years than 99% will in a lifetime. Either a) come out as a troll b) STFU

Bench has turned over a new leaf. I think he's starting to enjoy Bama football. This is a reasonable post, IMO.
