1992 to 1999, 12 team expansion Pre-Saban:
- UF and UT were the dominant programs in the SEC
- SEC East was 6-2 vs the West in SECCG
- SEC East had 2 NCs (UT/UF) to the Wests 1 (UA)

LSU's hiring of Saban in 2000 to present:
- Alabama and LSU have been the Dominant programs in the SEC (both built by Saban)
- SEC West is 11-5 vs the East in SECCG
- SEC West has 7 NCs to the Easts 2 (UFx2)
- LSU and Bama make up 8 of those SECCG wins (4 and 4) and 6 of those NCs (2 and 4)

The Big 6: cross division rivalries
West-------------------East
LSU--------------------Florida
Alabama-------------Tennessee
Auburn ---------------Georgia

LSU/Florida
10 years prior to Sabans arrival at LSU:
- UF leads LSU 9-1
Since LSU hired Saban in 2000
- LSU leads UF 9-7

Alabama/Tennessee
10 years prior to Alabama hiring Saban in 07
- Tennessee leads Alabama 8-2
Since Alabama hired Saban in 07:
- Alabama leads Tennessee 9-0

Auburn/Georgia
-1990 to 1999 Auburn led UGA 5-4-1
-UGA leads Auburn 10-6 since 2000
^ not Saban related but the third Big 6 matchup. Only lead for the East

-Since 2000 (Sabans 1st season at LSU) LSU is the winningest program in the SEC
-Since 2007 (Sabans 1st season at Bama) Alabama is the winningest program in the SEC

Miles earned and deserves credit for what he has accomplished no doubt, but Saban had an obvious influence on the LSU program and what it is today.

Sabans influence on Fulmer, Richt, Meyer

Fulmer
-Beat him in the fourth game of his first year at LSU in 2000, LSU was coming off of a 3-8 season in 99.
-kept him from the national title game in 01 beating him in the SECCG with a 3 loss LSU teams
-double jeopardy: Alabama beats Fulmer's SEC east champ Vols in 07 regular season. Then LSU, with players on the roster recruited by Saban, beats Tennessee in the SECCG.
-Fulmer was fired after the following season (Edit: was not replaced by Dooley)

Richt
- 2003 UGA was the SEC favorite and NC contender. Saban beats Richt at home and then again in the SECCG, LSU wins NC.
-2008 Saban's Alabama beats preseason favorite Georgia announcing to the college football world Alabama is back.
-2011 the LSU program is still firing on all cylinders and destroys Richt's UGA in SECCG
-2012 Saban defeats Richt in the SECCG keeping Richt from the NC and bringing it home to Alabama
-Richt fired after 2015 season for not bringing home championships, replaced by Saban's Defensive Coordinator Kirby Smart.

Meyer
- 2005 first year miles takes over Saban's team and beats Meyer keeping him from tie breaker over UGA
- wins NC at UF in 06
- 2007 loses to LSU (Saban players) preventing 3 way tie in the east
-2008 win NC after hard fought SECCG against Alabama in Sabans second season
-2009 Undefeated and dynasty bound Florida destroyed by Alabama in Sabans third season.
-2010 starts 4-0 then drops back to back games against Alabama and LSU. Finishes year 8-5
-Meyer has "heart condition" takes off one year then goes to Ohio State and absolutely dominates the BigX from the get go.
-Replaced by former Saban Defensive Coordinator Will Muschamp

Today the SEC west is considered the best division in Football. Alabama and LSU are top SEC preseason contenders at #1 and #6.
- UT, UF (twice), and UGA have all hired Saban assistants as their Head Coach. Two of the three SEC East Big 6 members currently have former Saban assistants as their Head Coach. Total SEC east Head Coaching hires of Saban assistants is at 5.

Wow. Good work, but Fulmer was replaced by Kiffin, not Dooley

Hey.

It was a decent 1st half. Malcolm Mitchell got a case of the brick hands. LSU didn't have a first down in the first half.

This is irrelevant to your post, but I'm going to hit submit anyway.

We replaced our entire OL. They ended up giving up 47 sacks that year. We were replacing the best WR in school history, our first 1000 yard RB in a decade, and all 3 starting LBs. Nice try, but awfully inaccurate.

Great alabama team that started 12-0. We went 10-3 and barely beat kentucky. Bama definitely teh better team.

Wow...saban hadn't been at LSU in 7 years but he's still getting credit for this? Georgia was not good this year, we only won the east because it was so dreadful as a whole. We played 4 good teams all year and lost to all 4 of them.

2 equals, about as evenly matched of a championsihp game as you'll ever see.

-Richt fired after 2015 season for not bringing home championships

has zero to do with saban. He was fired because he went 10 years without winning the league.

replaced by Saban's Defensive Coordinator Kirby Smart.

Also a UGA alum who was a position coach here under Richt, but nah....all comes back to saban of course

In 2003 you started the season ranked 11th, behind only auburn and ahead of Tennessee and LSU.

You were ranked 5th with 2 losses (1 to LSU) going into the SEC title game. You lost one game that wasnt to the national champion that year, you were a title contender and Saban was directly responsible for UGA not bringing home any championships.

You started this season #2 in the polls, lost to Alabama (you were 4-0) in the 5th game of the season, before you were 10-3 and they were 12-0....

This thread is about Sabans influence on the west. LSU was a bottom dweller in the 90s before hiring Saban. Yes I'm giving Saban credit for what he turned the LSU program into and was in 2011 and still is today. Hence him being responsible for the power shift from east to west.

And? All I said was an LSU team firing on all cylinders beat Richt

Did not winning the league in 10 years have anything to do with Saban? Like how he beat you in the title game in 12, or the LSU program he brought back beat you in 11. I'll leave out 03 since it was 12 years before but once again Saban was directly responsible for you not winning the league that year.
So yes I think Saban had something to do with "not winning the league," which is also known as not bringing home championships

So he wasn't Sabans Defensive Coordinator then?

For one year.

You don't think Smart's long term association with Saban, and all that success had anything to do with his hiring at Georgia? He would have been hired after an average career under some average coach because he was an alum?

The SEC was a powerhouse before but Nick Saban is directly or indirectly responsible for the competitiveness of the conference especially the west. It's not a boast, it is the truth.

Hard to argue otherwise.
-Former HC at LSU, built LSU into elite program and national brand which miles has maintained.
-Current HC at Alabama, built Alabama into a dynasty.
-Former OC won the East last year as Head Coach at UF
-Former DC is Head Coach at Georgia
-Former DC is Head Coach at USCe.

His fingerprint is all over this conference.

Just goes to show the lack of quality coaches now a days. It doesn't take them long to realize it was just the talent winning the games and give them the boot.

Lots of verbiage in the OP but I agree with the correlation of the divisonal power shift due to Saban.
