Rumor has it was because Saban was concerned of some character flaws that showed up in the resume.

Meyer was known at the time around coaching circles in Ohio to cut corners and do shady things.

Insecure little man afraid of having a subordinate who is better/smarter than he is.

What a gutless wimp.

At least get the story correct. Saban had already filled all the assistant positions. Saban's wife talked to Meyer when he called their home. She tried to convince Saban to hire him.

Were you concerned about the flaws in your father's gravestone after you killed him?

Since you are bringing this up, What was Alabama's reasoning for passing on Bobby Bowden.

You mean shaddy things like say a player has a career ending injury when said player is not even injured so Saban can make room for a new recruit?

Bobby passed on Alabama, not the other way around.

Adve
Not exactly how it went down but your story, albeit not the truth, tells better.

Not true at all.. Bowden wanted the Bama job VERY badly... He stated so many times himself... That administration was full of morons and hired Bill Curry. He was a decent coach but, needless to say, was not even in the same hemisphere as Bobby Bowden... That move still stings even to this day...
