Well, actually one guy but it is still a pretty cool story.

Saban advised former Auburn safety Powers before Patriots' workout in 2009

That's pretty awesome. Would love the opinion of the Bunker and ITAT on this one.

Story seems so incomplete. I wish they would've said how Saban came to know he was in Tuscaloosa or who contacted who. And like the poster above said, what kind of things did he tell him, some kind of information or something.

Cool story though.

well, it did say that his girlfriend at time (now wife) is a Bama grad and that Muschamp called and asked if he was in Tuscaloosa. Likely that Muschamp knew where his girlfriend lived and was seeing if the guy was visiting her. Then he gave him Saban's number.

Did these 2 paragraphs not answer this?

quote:

Powers, 28, bypassed his senior year at Auburn for the 2009 NFL Draft. Before having a workout with the New England Patriots, Powers received a call from Will Muschamp, who was his defensive coordinator at Auburn in 2006 and 2007, about someone he should contact – Saban.

“My girlfriend at the time, wife now, is a Bama grad and I was actually in Tuscaloosa the weekend before the workout,” said Powers, who will look to help Arizona beat Green Bay in Saturday’s NFC divisional playoff game at University of Phoenix Stadium. “Muschamp gave me a call and was like, ‘Are you in Tuscaloosa?’ I was like, ‘Yeah.’ He was like, ‘Nick want to holla at you.’ I was like, ‘What?’”

I have gained respect for Saban as a fan. That is cool that he helped him out. I also wished the information he helped with was available.

Let me explain myself, not incomplete in a lack of pertinent information way, incomplete in that I wish it was much longer because it's pretty interesting.

And Nick was all "Yo!" And I was like "No way!" And Nick was like "WAY!"

Okay, that image made me chuckle.

Anyway, this story doesn't surprise me. Saban has always struck me as a classy, upstanding type of guy. Not the most gregarious person, but being gregarious is irrelevant to your character. Most of the nastier accusations regarding him seemed to have little if any corroboration and plenty of ulterior motives. So Saban's a workaholic who isn't comfortable dealing with the public. As long as he is admired by people who actually know him, including his players, who gives a damn what random (and not-so-random) members of the public think?

Here is what you need to know. NFL owners and GMs listen to Saban. Gus not so much.

It would be neat to know, but it couldn't have been too revolutionary. Most likely pointers on what they're looking for and how to sell yourself and your abilities.

To me it isn't so much what he said. It is the fact that he took time out of his schedule to do if for a player from an opposing team simply because a friend asked him.
