Birmingham is where we played our biggest games against our biggest competition. Funnily enough, we almost always played LSU in Tuscaloosa.
From 1909 to 1986 Alabama played LSU in Birmingham 14 times, Mobile 3 times, Montgomery once, and Tuscaloosa 5 times.
Why are you so ignorant of Alabama history?

I find it hilarious how you want Alabama fans to accept your team as a rival.
I don't.
Apparently when I point out that Alabama/Tennessee isn't as special as everyone thinks, you want to make LSU a rival. Why is that?
I mean, come on, you don't even know that Alabama played LSU in Birmingham.

Alabama's played Mississippi as well as Kentucky in Birmingham 8 times each.
Hell, Alabama's played State 9 times in Birmingham.

Idiot.

Most Alabama fans didn't even care about that.
Saben having been at LSU is definitely up the LSU fans' butts though.

And the fans were still more passionate against LSU.....
What the frick does this even mean> Is that a quantifiable stat? No. I can assure you there were more Bama fans paying attention to a team beating them in the 4th quarter than a team that didn't even make it close in the 2nd half.

Rivalry applications being denied up in this thread.

I love how this argument comes up every year.

LSU didn't start playing real football until 2000. Everyone knows this. My point still stands.

I don't know why it's so hard for people to understand the difference in a true rivalry, and some games over a short period where teams were vying for dominance.
UA and UT have 100 years of history as being the top two programs in the SEC, and border states. The fact that Bama was down for a while, and then UT was down for a while doesn't mean the rivalry ended.
LSU was good for a few years when Bama was good. They fought it out. Not the same thing.

You would think that Coach Saben's opinion would be definitive.

and so is the opinion of a multi year All American and former team Captain

UA center Barrett Jones said he'd had LSU on his mind for a while now. "It's the game we circle on our schedule every year," he said. "It's been hard for us to not think about it, honestly, until now. We're kind of almost relieved we can address it."

Hes happy because he won a football game and youre taking that single 2 second clip and acting like theres a speech bubble saying "WE JUST BEAT OUR BIGGEST RIVAL" FFS he clinched the west with that win who wouldn't be pumped?

At that time Bama and LSU were premier programs whose game determined who would go to the SEC championship. Do you think Barrett checked with the thousands of players that came before him and asked their opinions about the rivalry? No im sure he got asked a question about LSU and answered it. You are taking 2 sentences and a 2 second clip and running around like you've got the goddamn ark of the covenant of evidence
Does Bama light up cigars every time they beat LSU despite it being an NCAA violation? See that's a thing that happens at TSIO, not a throwaway quote from one player one time. But of youre going to get all into quotes, check this out:
-Nick Saban
Care to address that?

He should have cleared that with the SID.

Saban said it was bigger. Saban clearly lied, at least in respect to Barret.
I think personally, the players will differ from year to year, depending on who their toughest/biggest game appears to be. To players, these rivalries arent big a deal as they used to be, as they arent necessarily growing up as huge fans of any particular program. That is my non troll view on this

We expanded BDS in the late 90s (I think 1998). We started playing games the big games in Tuscaloosa while sending some token games to Birmingham until the remainder of the contract with Legion Field ran out. That's why we played Vandy in Birmingham in 2000.
