That’s the first step.”
Rick Barnes today on Memphis radio. As I have said, I think this is a very high floor hire.

With his record it's really not. Now I wouldn't say it with our roster but he has the resume to make that statement without it being the least bit idiotic.

I want the SEC to improve, but it is obvious he picked up that "We are Texas and we are better than you" attitude at UT and I wouldn't mind him failing.

Depends on how he does in this spring signing period, but our current roster is pretty bad.

because he said "definitely" referring to something he can't possibly predict. Hell it'd be stupid for coach K or calipari to say it. It can ONLY lead to bad things on the off chance that they don't make it.
What would be so wrong with "I really love this program and it is my sincere hope and expectation that we'll make the tourney every year I'm here"?
Saying that they "will definitely" make it just seems like bad business.

Good Lord. How is that a we are better than you attitude? He's been to the tourney something like 15 out of the last 17 years. He's taken every school he's coached at to the tourney more years than not. That should be the expectation at any school paying a basketball coach top 20 money.

UT has every resource necessary to make the tourney every year and compete.

Pretty much this. I think a lot of posters are commenting on his statement without realizing how damned good his record is. For once, we didn't hire on the cheap.
