I googled Cam Newton bust today and I stumbled upon an article that said this
Funny know when you read this and see how well he's done.
By the way I love Cam Newton, my second fav sec qb ever.

Cam Newton is a sure-fire bust. I am so certain of this that if he is the Panthers' starting quarterback in 2016, I will buy a Cam Newton jersey and stand in the stadium parking lot in my underwear when the Panthers come to Tampa Bay and hold a sign proclaiming that Auburn rules over Florida and Carolina rules over Tampa Bay.

Funny the article also ends with this
quote::usa:
In five years, when Tebow is leading Denver into the playoffs and Cam Newton is riding someone's bench, remember this article.

For anyone wondering, the author's name is Jim Folsom.

I remember non-Auburn SEC fans hitched themselves to the "Cam should play TE in the NFL" wagon

I'll readily admit I'm surprised he's been as successful as he has been. I was pretty well convinced that his overall lack of maturity would be his undoing, and his first couple of years in Charlotte looked to kinda support that.
He's done a great job of growing up. The Panthers organization (and Mike Shula, really), deserve a lot of credit for bringing his immense talent into an effective NFL quarterback.

Not sure how his first couple of years support your theory of his undoing considering all the records he broke in year 1 and 2 and how many more games the Panthers started winning, but ok den.

Down in the comments, the guy went full-Stonehog and said that there's not a chance in hell he intends to live up to his bet.

You mean what you perceived as his lack of maturity?

Just like you said he needed to! Wow! What a coincidence!

By the way, in his first two seasons, Cam only passed for more yards than any qb in NFL history ever had in their first two seasons.
Oh, and ran for almost 1500 yards.
Not to mention rookie of the year.
But I can see how that backed up your the theory he would fail and needed shula to stay afloat.

Phat Phil, Serraneaux, Larry the Golfer, Phanny and myriad bad Arkansas posters would still be able to start threads, so...

Might enjoy this tidbit from advancednflstats as well about his first two seasons:
Btw, 62 total tds and broke Peyton total yardage record by over 1,000 yards in his first two seasons.
All with a pretty sorry team that was last in the nfl on offense the year before he got there.

There are the facts. Newton's statistical accomplishments through the first two seasons of his career will be the most prolific of anything we've seen in the NFL, ever. He compares favorably to Aaron Rodgers -- Newton has arguably been better -- despite Rodgers getting three years to marinate behind Brett Favre.

Exactly. People see his big smile, and that he's a happy guy that likes to joke and has charisma and mistake that for immaturity. You don't have to be serious every second to be mature.
By the time he was at Auburn he had more work ethic than anybody. He's a first there last to leave type of guy. I remember after Auburn signed him reading an article about how when he came to Auburn in January 2010 the first thing he did was move his stuff in and immediatley get his WRs and take them to the intramural fields to throw with them. He would have them run hundreds of routes almost evey day and by the time spring practice rolled around he already had established chemistry with his WRs. To me when I read that I knew all I needed to know about him and knew he would be great.
He likes to celebrate and have fun and bring the fans into, and that rubs people the wrong way, but the only thing remotely immature or disrespectful he did at AU was the hand over the mouth with Fairler after the Bama game.
Also as far as the pouting in Carolina, dude is a pure competitor through and through and you can tell he really learned from that incident and has improved his leadership since then.
That's a sign of maturity, learning from your mistakes. Cam has always done that.

He's trolling dude, nobody credits Shula with anything to do with Cam.
FWIW, Cam has grown up, but it was from pouting to leader, not thug or bad guy to good guy.

No O-line, RB, or receivers. But sure, make an argument for the hell of it I suppose

I despise Cam and his entire schtick. But one consistent report is how hard he works. Folks will follow a guy with that much talent who works that hard. Deione Sanders was the same way. I guess it's a different kind of leader. Don't think he's a legit Super Bowl QB. Time will tell.
