Honestly, I just don't know why the hell any coach would take that job, It's a hard place to win at but here are the bigger issues; Out of control boosters, and that means your name may soon be caught up in another investigation and ruin your reputation. Secondly, the hammer is coming. Bowl bans, lots more reductions in scholarships to be added to those already in place.

no coach that cares about winning will take that job. It will either be a guy that has had issues elsewhere and is going to be a placeholder (see Lane Kiffin at USC) or will be an up and coming coach looking for P5 experience. Les Miles is not that guy. He's 63 years old. He's not going to ride a team through potentially 3 years of probation and the aftermath. He says he's interested because, per the terms of his buyout, he has to be actively seeking employment.

Wasn't there a coach that did this exact thing a couple years ago?

New team was paying him very little while the old team was footing his salary with the buyout?

maybe less, but even if Les received half of what he was making at LSU, he'd still sign for more than what LSU owes him at this point, which is just a little bit more than 8 million. By the time this would even be a possibility (December-ish), that number is down to about 7.5 million. a 2.5 million/year contract for 4 years would take care of the entirety of Miles' buyout at LSU. The previous poster that said LSU would be paying the majority of his salary regardless is, quite frankly, not very good at math or talking out of his arse.

yup...

Charlie Weis

$24.6 million

Charlie Weis had a successful run as offensive coordinator of the New England Patriots. He won three Super Bowl rings with the franchise, but the most impressive part of his career was that it's somehow allowed him to earn $24.6 million to not coach at two different schools. Notre Dame fired him in 2009 – his buyout included $6.6 million on the spot and several more million over the next six seasons.

Weis also was fired as Kansas head coach in 2013 after going 6-22 over two seasons. The Jayhawks similarly bought out Weis' contract so that he couldn't coach, and finished paying him more than $5.6 million in December last year.

Guess that old saying is true: It really is better to be lucky than good.

I agree. He is getting older and if he goes to OM he is given at least 4 yrs depending on severity of penalty to make them competitive.

What's the ceiling at Georgia though? They will never be a dynasty. I think you should have a coach that has the potential of a top 10-15 team every year than find lightning in a bottle

I think the ceiling is significantly higher than that with proper admin support. The facilities are good, the new IPF looks incredible, the fan support will always be there, and one of the most talent rich metro areas in the country is 70 miles away.
