Harris owns a restaurant in Oxford, Ms., and the NCAA has alleged that Harris provided free food and cash to Leo Lewis, who is now a linebacker at Mississippi State. Ole Miss has disputed Lewis’ claims but the NCAA, who gave Lewis immunity in the case, views him as credible witness. Per Wolken, Harris turned over phone records that showed he had texted and called Lewis before National Signing Day 2015. Harris had previously told NCAA investigators he had not talked with Lewis.

Why would a booster be calling a recruit???

Freeze’s attorney does not believe that the Ole Miss coach and Harris spoke about the NCAA case, which would be a potential violation of bylaw 10.1 relating to unethical conduct.

Clearly just ordering brown bag take out. Coaching is hard work and a man gets hungry.

It's a homosexual love triangle. Ole Miss didn't do anything wrong, unless you're a homophobe.

I read the USA TODAY article which goes further and states the the phone calls became less frequent as the NCAA turned the screws on Harris.

Amateur hour in Oxford. They might as well have written these kids personal checks with the University seal on it.

This level of poor cheating and lack of creativity is beneath a charter member of the South Eastern Conference.

What's the story here? I try to avoid pointless flame threads.

Personally, my favorite excerpt in the article is this little gem.
quote:

According to Freeze’s attorney, H.G. Watkins, Freeze and Harris met by “happenstance” sitting next to each other at church at some point after Harris’ alleged violations occurred, formed a relationship and played golf together.

A) of course they met at church
B) they met by "happenstance" after this random guy that you've never met was in direct contact with and paying one of the biggest in-state recruits in recent memory
C) they became buddies after this, and they never discussed anything related to the NCAA investigation in which they were both implicated

But by all means, the institution does not lack control. Just a few rouge bad actors that the compliance department couldn't have possibly known about

Direct contact from your head coach to a booster who was bribing recruits

Freeze made a bunch of calls to some restaurant (this word never looks right) owner in Oxford.
ETA: Restaurant owner who admitted to paying prospective student athletes

The real story is that the WSJ and USATODAY and other national publications are pouring over phone records. I'm turning my phone off , just in case

That OM response of "Nutt was the problem but our high moral fiber football coach will fix things" just keeps getting funnier.

NCAA's response will likely involve arse-ramming the OM program sans lube.

I'm told they are friends and golfing buddies. I don't believe they were organizing some insidious burger-for-croots scheme. More importantly for me, these calls have been documented by NCAA investigators and there is nothing in the noa about it. And the noa meets in less than a month. Enjoy your weird gossip thread though. I prefer sports threads.
