Replay from Birmingham Is Gonna Screw Somebody

They have an old fart named Randy Christal, part of a what was nicknamed the "Austin Mafia" iin Texas, doing the replays in Birmingham.
Saturday in OT the Aggies clearly broke the endzone plane with the ball before the whistle was blown.
Christal ruled it wasn't a touchdown, but we did get the score on the next play.
Whoever hired this guy to come from Texas to Birmingham to ref SEC games should be fired.

His knee was down

U heard the reason by the game official right. He said even though it was obvious he broke the blame it was not conclusive whether or not his knee was down before he broke the plane. So DA they did not have conclusive evidence to overturn the play on the field. U did hear this right? DA...U do understand the call on the field stands if there is not enough evidence to overturn said call. Right DA
O and I was pulling for the SEC you DA

Agreed. The ball crossed, but his knee appeared to be down. There certainly wasn't enough to overturn the play. I dont see any difference in whether they are on site or not. They get the same camera shots. If anything it keeps them from being influenced by factors at the stadium - home crowd, etc.

Impossible to say if his knee was down but it was also equally impossible to overturn the call.
No definitive proof either way.

it also gives you several people looking at it who get to talk and discuss

No it wasn't. Whistle isn't blown until knee down or forward progress stopped.
Wait until the Austin Mafia screws you and you'll feel differently.
Why didn't they appoint a respected SEC ref to do this job? That is my main complaint.

I agree someone will get screwed, I don't like it. The benefactors will be Bama/auburn.

Has absolutely nothing to do with the call in question. No idea why the announcers kept coming back to that while it was under review.
The only way a whistle would have been relevant in that situation is if it had blown early, and the play would have been called dead because of it.

Because that's what Verne and Gary do. They get hung up on something irrelevant to the game at least once a week.

My, my, almost everybody that defends bringing in this old fart from Texas to make calls from Birmingham are all Bama fans!
No surprise there.

I'm not defending anything. Simply pointing out that your outrage is based on a fallacy and completely irrelevant.

Gary was correct on the replay of the A&M td in overtime. I'm just glad it didn't come down to that call.

Dude, the call on the field was that he was short. There had to be indisputable evidence that he scored to overturn it. The whistle had nothing to do with it. Tighten your tin foil hat a little more if you must, but you're absolutely wrong about that particular replay. And yes, someone will get screwed. But that happened before, when all replays were handled on site. So moving it isn't going to have anything to do with it.

He just wanted the frick outta Texas. Simple.

They took away a TD from us. Indisputable evidence apparently means nothing now and who the frick knows what a catch is anymore.

Actually Auburn got screwed last night on one call. Kerryon Johnson made a diving catch on the 1 and it was ruled a catch on the field. Replay got sent back to Birmingham, no indisputable evidence to overturn in the replay but it still got overturned.

A receiver catching a pass has to make a football move to be free from having to maintain possession once he hits the ground. Falling down is not a football move. Therefore, a receiver who falls down before making a football move has to maintain control of the ball throughout the fall. This is not new, but people somehow have yet to catch on. Same thing happened late in the UGA/UNC game that went against UNC.

I agreed with all of the calls i saw from the SEC offices yesterday. One day he will get it wrong(it is almost inevitable), and when they do, I just hope everybody remembers the man is from Texas, not Alabama.
