Wrong again
quote:

To get right to the point, Auburn's only nickname is the Tigers. We're the Auburn Tigers. Auburn has been known as the Tigers since the University first fielded a football team against Georgia in Atlanta in 1892.

quote:

"War Eagle" is Auburn's battle cry. Auburn has never referred to any of its teams as "Eagles" or "War Eagles". To the Auburn Family, it's very simple. We are the Tigers who yell War Eagle!

Not why you tards all think you are right about our mascot. And it started against your shitty team too.

It's very simple having a Tiger mascot(why btw?), and yelling "WAHR Aeeagle? "

Why did AU run with a tiger as their mascot? Is there historical significance or background like for LSU

The Tigers nickname is rumored to have been plucked from the same poem that inspired the Plainsman nickname, The Deserted Village, by Oliver Goldsmith. Line 355 of the poem says “Where crouching tigers wait their hapless prey,” which is where the Tigers nickname is rumored to have found its way to Auburn.

I didn't call your team "shitty".

I just said that YOUR OWN WEBSITE is giving more history for the use of "war eagles" than it does "tigers".

I hesitate to post it because someone will take it the wrong way but i wonder how The Rebels get a black eye for their mascot when The Fighting Tigers is just as "Southern" as the rebels?

The back story of the Louisiana Tigers is too complicated for a tweet. You'd have to read a whole paragraph before taking offense. Mike the Tiger is protected by modern America's tiny attention span.

I know they use "The Bears" right now, but I didn't even know that bears lived in Mississippi to be to be honest.

Wow, I've misunderstood this the whole time.

That is just a LSU fan thing. Us other fanbases can handle paragraphs.

But, Auburn never uses "War Eagle" as a mascot. We just use "The Tigers".

We were the Tigers back in 1892 during the birth of the SEC and the team we were playing at the time (UGA) "identified" with their ill-historied "Goat" that they had on the side-line. They draped a red and black banner across its back in school pride.

We had an Eagle on the field that day in beautiful Piedmont Park in Atlanta that just happened to break lose and "Fly Down the Field" (see the lyrics of Auburn's Fight Song) just when we became the first victors in what would eventually grow into a very powerful and well-known Conference, and UGA then quickly changed to a bulldog mascot very soon afterwards, after our hard-fought victory on that muddy field (played in a very cold February back then).

I guess "fan anger" got in the way somehow, and the Goat quickly disappeared shortly thereafter (probably murdered), but that was how things were back then living in the South in 1892.

Very good game, however. It is always great to hear how Auburn was the first team to win this conference over 120 years ago. We were the first Kings in this regard. The first of many, but the "Very First" nontheless.

"Ole Miss" is actually pretty good on its own. There is no real need for a mascot.

Everyone knows what, and who, you are referring to. Pretty cool nick-name for a University.
