That was good times.

Hindsight is 20/20, but wow! Any Kentucky fans ready to eat crow about this guy yet? Too lazy to search back, but there were UK fans galore praising rivals for "seeing past the Simmons hype."

Seriously though, Skal is averaging about 8 and 3. Not that there's anything wrong with that for a very good freshman. Just nowhere near Simmons and could never hope to be.

My favorite comment was an MSU fan saying Simmons can't dribble with his head up

I remember that! I think I replied

ETA: Yeah that guy was arguing that Malik Monk was a much better player, and said Simmons can't dribble with his head up. He even watched both players' mixtapes.

Another guy said Simmons was an unreal athlete but raw. I disagree with both parts of that evaluation.

Who is that guy who is a Bama football fan but a UK basketball fan? RTR? He was crowing about how skalabrine was better before the season.

Rivals basketball rankings are a joke.

It's hard to understand how they fricked that up. It's not like Simmons all around talent and polish is hard to recognize. Just watch him for a minute and then you know

Rivals is afraid they'll be late to the party on the next big thing. Simmons was a known commodity. Skal picked up a lot of steam towards the end of the recruitment period (much like Karl Anthony Towns, who is actually good), so they jumped into the inexplicable hype.

A lot of the Skal hype came from rivals. He outplayed Simmons at one camp and some people overreacted. They forgot that Simmons had been dominating for years.

It's that much? I've watched probably 6 or 7 UK games this year and I don't think I've seen him surpass 5 points or 2 boards a single time.

You were hoping he was just a frontrunner?

I mean he still could be if he exclusively roots for Bama in football and Kentucky in basketball. It doesn't really matter though, I'm not going to try and tell someone who they shouldn't or should root for in college sports. I still find it very odd though.

Scout also has Labissiere as their number 1. They were both wrong.

More than one service picked Skal (it was pretty evenly split at one point). And those are guys who get paid to evaluate players.

As far as the Simmons hype, he's very good. I don't know that anyone rationally denied that. But even as good as he is, the "next Lebron" hype was still ridiculous.

It's sad that some LSU fans have such a complex about it though. If he's legitimately going to be that good of a pro player, it doesn't matter much what a preseason service projected him as in the draft.

ETA: All that said, I'm certainly not sad to likely have him back a second season. He has a nice jumper and with some work in the weight room still has a decent ceiling.
