It will be the most controversial discussion in the playoff era.

tOSU: one loss, tough schedule, great individual talent, big wins over Oklahoma AND Michigan.

Penn State: Conference champs, head to head over tOSU, but one more loss.

Either the committee sends a message that conference championships and/or head to head are the biggest consideration, or that strength of schedule/overall record is the biggest consideration. None of us truly know what will happen.

Ohio state gets in. They have the best coach in the nation with a durable/battle-tested team. We know what happened last time they got a chance in the playoffs...

You may be right. Maybe. But Jim Delaney's comments about conference champs was a very very strong one.

Some people are speaking really definitively on this, as if it's "OBVIOUS", but it's really not.

it would and should be an outrage if they get in over a PSU big10 champ. in what world does it make any sense for ohio state to get in over the team that not only won their conference, but won their division, too?

That may be the difference. My prediction (shaky as hell) is that the committee decides that rewarding Ohio State's schedule is more important than stressing conference championships. If conference champion trumps all, then it makes no sense to schedule a tough OOC opponent. And I think that message is what tips it to Ohio State this year. Barely.

That committee is not going to tell the CFB world that conference titles, especially from a championship game, no longer mean anything.

This could be good for ratings on the rankings shows tomorrow but could be bad for ratings in the playoff. I feel like you have to be a conference champ to make the 4 team playoffs unless you are clearly better then a conference champ.

Penn St and Wisc have TWO losses. It ain't rocket surgery to see that OSU has a significantly better win/loss resume than either of those two will have after the B1G CG. If Clemson wins, Bama, OSU, Clemson and Wash will all have better resumes than PSU & Wisc. Only way B1G Champ gets in is if Clemson loses.

Debatable and irrelevant to the discussion.

durable/battle-tested team

Battle tested holds some weight, but durable really doesn't impact the chances of getting in.

Considering it wasn't even last year, but two years ago this happened, even more irrelevant.

I'll be shocked if they let Penn State in.

They do mean something. A lot actually. They give you a chance to really boost your resume with a highly ranked win. If two teams are close it gives you the nod. The committee says OSU and PSU aren't close

In theory, each week is a snapshot in time.

PSU you had a quality win tonight.

Ohio State watched the game.

I think Ohio State still gets in, but surely even a Ohio State fan can see how it is debatable that they should get in over their own conference champion that they lost to in the head to head matchup.

We heard for the past few weeks how great the Big10 is, yet neither division champ will be in the final four. That is messed up.

the case against Penn State is they got blown out in one of their losses.

a top 4 team probably only loses a close game.

They did.

Do not get me wrong, winning the conference should not be an automatic entry.

But the fact remains they beat Ohio State and won the conference. That makes it weird, in my view to put Ohio State in ahead of them.

Again, I worry this sets a bad precedent either way.

A) Conference Titles are diminished
B) SOS is diminished

I think the details of who gets in are not that important this year, as whoever gets in is probably just going to get mauled by Alabama. However, as the op said, the choice the committee makes will show an emphasis one aspect over another going forward.

i think alabama is beatable, if teams can stop the qb run, and arent passing the ball to their defense. alabam's offense wasn't impressive against LSU that is for sure.

Bama hasn't faced a team this year that is balanced pass/ run on offense while also having a solid defense.

i think Clemson and OSU are both as capable of winning it all, assuming OSU gets in.

One of Penn State's losses is to Pitt who also beat Clemson, which is their only loss.

And I heard tonight that Penn State was decimated with injuries when they lost to Michigan really bad. Doesn't the committee look at stuff like this?

It's definitely gonna be interesting to see how they handle this.

That defense has been crushing teams.

And they scored, what 14 points tonight?

And I am sorry but regarding Ohio State or Penn State, I think both teams would be murdered by Alabama.

if LSU held bama to 10 points, why can't OSU or Penn State at least hang with them.

if i was a bama fan, i wouldn't be that confident with a freshman QB even if he has shown a lot of poise.

i would love to see Alabama lay an egg in the playoffs. lol their fan based needs to learn some humility. :)
