It doesn't really matter who coaches there unless Saban got extremely bored at Bama and wanted a challenge, Arkansas is always at a talent disadvantage. They don't have the in-state talent of Alabama, Louisiana, and Texas. The right coach can build a decent team every 2-3 years, but 6-6 type years will be common for them. It's not Bert or Robb Smith's fault that Auburn's 4th string running back is more talented than Arkansas safeties and linebackers. It's just always going to be very tough to win at Arkansas in the SECw and they have a low ceiling as a program.

Never doubt the overall stupidity of this board. They think he was fired for having extramarital sex. There isn't enough upstairs for them to comprehend the rest of the situation.

This.

At least Long didn't try to cover up or minimize Petrino's clear violation of state law like Mal Moore did with DuBose in '99.

Petrino's actions were worse, but DuBose should have been dismissed immediately for having an affair with a subordinate. Instead of waiting a year later, when his team started sucking and he was under NCAA investigation.

The reality is that Petrino might just be a damn good coach, much better than Bert

Anyone who DOESNT think Petrino is a hell of a good coach hasn't paid attention. Towards the end of his tenure here he rested a little because of the strange he was getting, but still would have won 8ish games with that team. Bert isn't a BAD coach, he is actually pretty good at being a CEO type coach and putting assistants in spots where they will succeed. He isn't a system coach and wants the same athletes as everyone else though. Petrino could recruit to his system and make things work with what we could get. Of course, to do that he nearly had to abandon playing defense but that would have eventually been fixed I think.

That having been said, he had to be fired for what he did.

They could recruit when they were in the SWC. It's never gonna work playing in this conference. It hasnt so far. Seriously, the worst stretch in Arkies history has been since they joined the SEC. It's not by coincidence.

They could recruit Texas. They cant recruit georgia and Florida and now kids in texas dont want to go there because mom and dad cant go the 6-8 hours it takes to get to the games. Same thing with A&M. The games we have played with them at BDS, the first ting that hits you is how few Aggies travel to t'town. They maybe had a couple thousand. maybe. It's all they ever bring. They bring about as many as Vandy or South Carolina.

Why do you think we fired our coach?

Don't kick people when they are down.

Unless they are Bammers. Then you kick them, set them on fire, and run over them with your car.
