Wasn't FootballScoop the one that said their "lock of the offseason" was that Saban wouldn't be at Alabama in 2016 because he was tired and ready to leave or something to that effect?

Dunno, I don't read the site and am not vouching for it. But reading that exchange makes it look pretty much in the right vis-a-vis the State SID. Threatening a legitimate media outlet with not getting credentials if they don't report how, when, and what the school wants? Pretty pathetic.

Meh, if I don't get in a car, I can't get in a wreck, but it's his *job* to take those calls. The initial tweet was indeed inaccurate, and at least bordering on unprofessional.
They may very well be wrong frequently, but insofar as MSU was concerned, it appears at least based on a fairly wide (but still limited) sample size, they haven't been wrong so much as inconvenient.

I don't think anyone needs to rush to defend FS on this. They will report anything that sources tell them. He should own up to the fact that he trades access for the right to be used as a pure leverage play. As a result, the rumors don't pan out because they are preliminary or based on aspirations by job seekers like Dan Mullen, for instance.
