Was UT-UF considered much of a rivalry before Spurrier?

LSU/Bama: Both teams have been ranked in like 12 of the last 13 meetings. I doubt any other series in the conference can say that at any point
Exactly and if you remove the 1920's, 60's, 70,s and 90's--the series is extremely competitive

from an lsu fan perspective:
1. Iron Bowl
2. DSOR
3. Cocktail Party
4. Egg Bowl
5. UF-UT
As an impartial observer, I don't like that the cocktail party is played in Jacksonville every year. I've never liked neutral site games (hate that LSU seems to do one every year) and think it would be much cooler to have it on each school's campus.
I know tsio is big for bama and ut fans, but I wonder how much fans from the rest of the conference care. The last game I remember that was even competitive was kiffin's first year at Tennessee. Probably going to be a snoozer this year as well.

Ridiculous, that rivalry is about as competitive as the UT Vandy rivalry.
...oh, wait

In the meantime that rivalry with Vandy has sure heated up.

U boys don't know much about rivals! LSU biggest rival has never changed! We would rather beat OL'OISS & lose to the other teams.

How could you leave off USCe-Mizzou? The greatest rivalry of them all.

Anyone who doesn't put the egg bowl in top 5 knows shite about history or this conference.
At least IMO, this game doesn't mean a ton to me because it's an end of season game where the winner finishes around 5th in the West.
Not super compelling compared to many of the others listed.

True, but you look at it from this perspective: that game defines the success of the season for both teams. So naturally you'll see them elevate their play on the field to achieve victory. Usually get some intense and fun games.

It's not a just another neutral site game, the entire experience is at a level you just don't see anywhere else. I never want to see it moved.
