This stems back to the thread a couple of weeks ago about coming up with a system to rank the SEC programs in the Big 3 sports. So here it is:

NCAA Tournament Appearance = 1 point
CWS Appearance = 5 points
National Title = 20 points

Here are how the SEC programs fall in order:

1. LSU- 234 pts
2. South Carolina- 126
3. Florida- 82
4. Mississippi St.- 80
5. Missouri- 72
6. Arkansas- 68
7. Georgia- 63
8. Texas A&M- 57
9. Vanderbilt- 50
10. Alabama- 48
11. Ole Miss- 46
12. Auburn- 39
13. Tennessee- 29
14. Kentucky- 6

Overall, the SEC is very strong in baseball. Outside of Kentucky, even the teams at the bottom have had real success at times.

#9 Vanderbilt has a National Title on their resume.
#12 Auburn and #13 Tennessee each have 4 College World Series trips on their resume.

Kentucky, with 6 trips to the NCAA Tournament and no trips to Omaha, is really the only team from the SEC with little baseball success to speak of.

Did you intentionally not mention USC's titles?

Vandy is an elite baseball program now.

Historically, maybe not, but they are now.

He didnt mention LSUs titles either....

He made note of Vandy because it is surprising to see a team with a recent title at #9

Subjectively, for me:

1. LSU
2. Florida
3. Vandy/USC

5. MSU

6.-14. Doesn't matter

You would rank FLORIDA over two teams that have national championships? Recent ones at that

Quit trolling.

This a good reason why this season for Georgia is so hard to fathom, they've been a very solid program for a long while. 8-13 is a stunner for them, even though they came close in that last game against LSU.

Is it a question of the coaching staff, young players, freak injuries, or just really bad recruiting for a couple of years?

You might want to weight pre 99 appearances higher. You could also weight SR appearances. Getting the same credit for going 2nQ in a regional vs pushing a game 3 in a super is pretty significant IMO.

Not trolling. Just my subjective, off the cuff opinion.

Looking at some accomplishments, they appear pretty even, with the SC national championships being the biggest differentiator. So, I was off.

Yea, but it was a ranking. I get it when looking at the total picture, but mentioning Vandy's title and CWS appearances should factor recent accolades.

I get the point system, just seems odd.

Both USC and Vandy have done more recently than LSU.

Baseball is the big 3 sport that id give the most weight to fan support. I think sustained excellence is a bigger deal than one recent run of greatness. Its also to be noted that some states schools have had a tremendous advantage with baseball recruiting due to ridiculous title 9 restrictions and state lotto scholarships which are not counted as baseball schollys.

For me(past 30 or so years):
1) LSU
2) USCe
3) Miss State

4) Vandy

5+ all have had great seasons. I originally said didnt matter but honestly the SEC has been a pinnacle of greatness for college baseball for years.

I'd add conference regular season titles as well as super regionals (although supers have only been around since 1999). Pre 1999 the tournament also only had 48 teams, so maybe that should be weighed higher
