How does tRant holisticaly see the East heading into their week 2 matchups?

Georgia jumps out as the #1 team heading into their matchup with ND this weekend imo. It'll be interesting to see how the freshman QB and OL performs on that type of stage. I've got Tennessee and South Carolina as a 2a and 2b until we are able to see more from both programs. Both did some nice things offensively and have some weapons to put up points. Both defenses struggled although Tennessee struggled more given the nightmare that is Paul Johnsons triple option. Going to need to see what UT looks like against a traditional offense before I make any definitive opinions. Carolina's week 2 matchup with Missouri should tell quite a bit about the Eastern landscape moving forward. Vanderbilt, Kentucky and Missouri are going to give people issues with their style of play. I don't expect any of those 3 to beat any of the elite teams in CFb, but I think all 3 could play spoiler and knock off some teams in the tier just below that. Missouri's offense looked like a Texas Tech/Baylor offense and was really moving the ball out. The problem is they look like Texas Tech defensively as well and that's going to be something they need to address quickly. Shoot outs are fun, but take years off your life. Derek Mason has Vandy looking the best that I've seen them look since he took over. Kentucky didn't look as good as I expected them to in week 1, but they got the W and that's all that Matters at this point. Florida is the real question mark for me. Is Mac able to lean on his defense all season again or is his seat hotter than ever in the near future? The UT/UF game in 2 weeks should give us an idea on which direction that program is headed. Overall a lot of question marks, but I've got it broken down like this:

1. Georgia
2a. South Carolina
2b. Tennessee
4. Vanderbilt
5. Florida
6. Kentucky
7. Missouri

Those bottom 3 are interchangeable in a lot of ways fwiw imho.

Missouri scored a million points on their FCS opponent though.

Vandy should be third and Tennessee fourth. At least based on week one performance.

I'm ok with this ranking after week one result, but the conference games will start soon and it will change.

True, but most of the East would still beat Miss State.

I'm withholding judgement until after this weekend. I believe Georgia is clearly at the top of the division right now, but I wanna see'em romp Notre Dame.

SC at Mizzou is going to tell us a lot about both teams. Mizzou may not be as bad on defense as they showed .... but their bar is pretty low right now. Still, they can score points and I need to see SC's young D come out of the gate a little faster - which I believe they will this Saturday.

I didn't get to see much of Vandy or Kentucky. Either of them could play spoiler in the East this year but from what little I did see neither are world beaters on either side of the ball. No real bad weaknesses, but no real good strengths either.

Florida is a real enigma. They've got players but I'm really starting to question their coaching. Given, they were short some players and their chemistry is waaaaaay off but still ... I guess we will not start seeing the real 2017 Gators until they get some issues off the field ironed-out.

Tennessee is never going to be a powerhouse under Butch. They'll be a good team, they'll have the potential to beat anyone on any given Saturday, they've got talent ... but they don't seem to play with the excitement and energy they used to play with in their haydays.

If I had to rank the division right now it would look like this ...

Georgia

Tennessee & South Carolina

Kentucky & Florida
Vandy

Mizzou

... and it's liable to be very fluid in the East this season. Things could change dramatically week to week.

I mean the division is not bad by national standards, but it's not good by SEC standards.

It is getting better right now though ... young players mainly. Coaches at Vandy and Kentucky are as good as they've had in awhile. Can't tell much about the guy at Mizzou just yet but if he is defensive minded you have to believe he'll get that ship righted eventually. I like mUSChamp - he's a perfect fit for SC but I'm biased. Butch is below Tennessee standards IMHO. Great recruiter but too much of a cheerleader and a shitty in-game motivator and manager. And McElwain ... he's just doesn't seem like a good fit at Florida. I'm not sure what it is about him but he has this air about him that seems out of place in Gainesville IMHO. I'm really not sure he is going to be able to handle the heat coming his way over the course of the next two seasons.

Anyways ... the East is not a shite show by national standards but it is definitely not up to SEC standards.

I actually do look for a lot of improvement from the entire division as this season moves along though.

Mizzou's defense was penetrated more than Jenna Jameson.

You didn't miss much. Kentucky got a lead and proceeded to wait out the clock by running the wildcat formation into a 9 man front for 2 hours. On the bright side for Kentucky the defense was able to hold onto that lead against a C-USA team.. so improvement?

Mizzou will put up 60 on UT this year. Crocket went for 200+ against them last year.

The East looks like this

1-0 teams

0-1 teams

The rest of your ranking are stupid.

Tenner C had their Dline pushed around by 250 lb Tech OL all game long and if GT hadn't fumbled so much you hillbillies would be screaming for Butchy's head.

They were playing 1 yard off the LOS. Of course they got pushed. Stupid comment other than the fact that a loss would indeed cause fans to freak out but that's a 'duh' observation.
