15. Tennessee

quote:

This could be a make-or-break year for Butch Jones. The Vols have yet to win 10 games during the Jones era — even though UT routinely ranks amongst the best in the nation annually when it comes to recruiting.

The overall amount of talent on this squad is perhaps the best of any school in the conference not named Alabama. In any case, Tennessee hasn’t won 10 games in a season since 2007. The quarterback position is an on-going battle between Quinten Dormady and Jarrett Guarantano (with the former potentially holding a slight edge). Should Tennessee not win the SEC East this season, it could signal the end of the Jones tenure.

Where have you been, Phil? You're giving Auburn a chance to end Tennessee's off-season dynasty. Tennessee can't win another off-season championship without your help.

I can name 15 teams in the SEC that could win it over Tennessee

poster: there aren't 15 other teams in the SEC

Well then let's add Memphis and Middle Tennessee State as teams that have a better chance of winning it than UTK along with the 13 other SEC Schools

PS Even ineligible Ole Miss and Mizzou has a better shot. LOL

I don't think that's close to being true. Maybe Butch Jones isn't as bad a coach as some think, because he has never had the second most talented team in the SEC, and won't this year either. Maybe 4th or 5th.

8. Auburn

quote:

Auburn is another fascinating team within the SEC West. Gus Malzahn’s program has been plagued by inconsistency from the quarterback position. As a means to remedy the situation, Malzahn went out and snagged Baylor transfer Jarrett Stidham. Stidham could be the most talented QB on The Plains since Cam Newton.

With the two-headed monster of Kamryn Pettway and Kerryon Johnson returning at running back, Auburn’s offense should be plenty potent. Leading tackler Tray Matthews returns — as does rising sophomore sensation Marlon Davidson. If junior DT Byron Cowart can live up to his former standing as the nation’s top recruit, look out.

10. Texas

While former head coach Charlie Strong failed to have success from a wins standpoint, he did recruit very well. There were signs this team was on the cusp of breaking out.

With new head coach Tom Herman in tow, expect the Longhorns to surprise in what should be a weakened Big 12.

Agree. TN has had less and probably still has less overall talent than Alabama, LSU, Georgia for sure.

Florida, TN, Auburn and A&M are all right there in that next tier.
