Fournette wasn't a heisman favorite by every major media outlet?

LSU wasn't a playoff contender by every major media outlet?

re there any of you who are tired of that cycle and are taking a more patient, wait and see approach before making claims of "look out SEC" moving forward. Based on this thread, yes. There are some. You appear to be outnumbered tho.

I'm tired of recruiting as well as LSU has and not see the results on the field. I'm tired of seeing the same tired offense with no imagination. I'm tired of coaches not even having to prepare for Les Miles. If nothing less, I'm excited about a breath of fresh air to the program. I'm fully aware LSU may have to take a step back to take a step forward and it may take 2-3 years before we're back to competing on a national level. However, for LSU to get back there, I though firing Les Miles was absolutely necessary. Sure, our new coach could very well end up being a dud. But at the same time, I think it was pretty clear Les was not going to turn around the program either, so it's kind of a wash in my opinion.

Exactly where I would be mentally if I were an LSU fan enduring the last 4-5 years.

This is a quote about LSU fans from Cholly Mac after he was fired in 1979. This is a perfect explanation.

"We wouldn't have a Southeastern Conference if they kicked out everybody who didn't beat Alabama," McClendon said with a chuckle. "But people here aren't interested in what's gone on at other places . . . These people here will never stop. They think because it's LSU, it's the best there is. They better get out around the country and see what's going on."

The insular isolation of Louisiana fans remains the same 35 years later. They still look at their team and see "all that talent." Most of them never look at other teams, and some even brag about it. They are amazed that other teams they ignore beat that azz. Same stuff decade after decade. Mass delusion is the only way to describe it.

Fact is that overall, LSU has NOT recruited that well... there are huge holes in the recruiting rosters if the goal is to put together a complete team.

Assuming this is a legitimate question, and not a troll...

Do you guys ever get tired of this?

Yes. A lot of this is in keeping with why Miles was let go. Specifically the following points:

quote:

* LF7 winning the Heisman!
quote:

* Cam Cameron is going to wreck shop as an OC. Get ready SEC! We've got a former NFL HC calling plays for us. LSU O is about to explode!
quote:

* We have 18 starters returning and Vegas has us favored in every game! Look out SEC
quote:

* Brandon Harris has really matured as a passer since last season! Look out SEC
quote:

* Now that 3rd and Chavis is gone we'll hire someone better on D!
quote:

* 3rd & Chavis is why we lost those games to Bama. he's gone and we're gonna win now!
Regarding Chavis, there are reasons why fans were disgruntled with him. In most games when Miles's Offense sputtered, Chavis's Defense did enough to get us the W. However, there were many games when Offense did enough to carry a lead into the waning minutes of a game for us only to see Chavis's scheme go into prevent and allow the other teams to go on game-winning drives. I do not think Steele was an upgrade for LSU defensively. He had some success because he didn't change much of Chavis's system. The jury is still out on Aranda because he is changing the system. I do think once the players learn it, Aranda will be highly successful at LSU. I contend under Miles, and his terrible Offense, that LSU needed a top 10 defense to stay competitive. With an Offense ranked anywhere higher than 90th, LSU can compete with a top 25 defense.

Your other points are ridiculous honestly. How dare fans of a program that dumps the resources LSU does into football expect excellence.

Alabama had a revolving door of head coaches after Bear and up to Nick Saban. Please don't preach to me about tempering expectations. Alabama was pretty mediocre for a long time, yet that didn't stop them from demanding excellence year after year and holding coaches accountable for not achieving that. And Charlie Mac did not get fired for his inability to beat Alabama. He got fired because he went 40-27-2 his final 6 years (2 losing seasons) after going 53-15-1 the previous 6 and two Orange Bowls, with his worst season being 8-3.

sure thing and even if that were true, who's fault is that?

And at the end of the day when LSU spends as much as it does on the program, with money collected 100% from the fan base, of course they are going to demand a return on their investment. I don't see the media and other fan bases feeling sorry for NFL coaches, who have a very short leash. Why is college so much different. Things have changed. College football is a HUGE business now. The good ole boy way of doing things doesn't cut it in today's world. You either win, or your program will find someone who will.

It's so cute how most Bama fans judge the quality of their life on the success of Alabama football. It's ok little buddy. Hang in there.....

and now:
* We are getting Herman or Fisher and then it's on! Look out SEC!

Your post is a summary of fandom.

Fans of teams should have high expectations, its how teams get better. Settling makes a team worse, not better.

This post is basically asking LSU fans why they are fans, which doesn't make sense.

I'm trying to understand the post. I read it again.

Do you think we should just give up on the season and not be fans?

What are you asking here?

I have to honestly say you and your original post are full of shite. Could have asked the same question in a different manner if you were truly interested in a honest response. But, no, you choose to live with your head in your arse. Such is life, guess you could be an A&M fan and have something else beside your head stuck up in your arse

All of this.

For some reason they think Louisiana has some magical power and is the only state with talented players. In reality there are like 9 or 10 teams with high quality rosters in the SEC and every state on the gulf coast is loaded with talent.

They have some talent at a few positions, but they have lots suspect players where it really counts. Upfront on both lines of scrimmage and QB.

We know LSU the best there is, forget all that realistic crap. As far as I am concern, when a game has not been played, LSU has just as good a chance to improve and compete as any other school. I really have no shits to give worry about what gumps or any other fan base thinks of LSU and how things are done here.

So you can take it one of two ways: either LSU is very talented (like most agree) and the talent is being under utilized, or LSU just hasn't recruited well and can't compete based off of who is on the roster.

EITHER WAY, the responsibility for that lay at Les Miles's feet. Point is, the talent is in La in abundance, and LSU gets dibs on all of it save a few exceptions here and there. LSU, historically speaking, is better than all but one, maybe two programs in the SEC, and a lot of that is due to the talent pool.

It isn't magic and La isn't the only state with talent (no LSU fan has ever said or thought that btw). If you can't see the competitive advantage LSU has in recruiting over many other schools, then I have to say the deficiency in question is your reasoning skills, not LSU's recruiting.

Good thing Tennessee fans have had such low expectations of their team as Tennessee has finished below LSU every year for as long as most college football players can remember.

Again, why call out LSU fans for having high expectations?

High expectations is what keeps programs that win relevant. When fans settle is when programs begin to deteriorate.

Why call out LSU fans for being..........wait for it......................fans?
