Questions:
Where did he go to school?

He's been elected to 5 consecutive 6 year terms (been in office every year since 1990). Why do people in his area continue to elect him?

Info:
Has reputation for going light on nonviolent crimes and pushing for severe punishment on violent crimes. Almost a direct quote on that is found here

Non-violent criminals shouldnt always end up in jail. Its a burden on the system. His comment, however, was so fricking dumb.

Agree completely.

My point in the OP was simply that his decision was seemingly consistent with his record on similar issues and not a result of some tie to or love of Alabama (as a few have claimed), nor was it a result of being paid off (as many, many more have claimed).

What bewilders me is the Bama fans that are trying to internally rationalize to themselves why no charges were filed. Or desperately seeking answers. Bunch of attention whores.

I don't feel the need to rationalize anything. The 4th Amendment is a wonderful thing. This situation doesn't require any more though than that.

I would imagine that some posters find it fun to rub this in the faces of the folks who were convinced that these guys were headed to prison.

I would think that no charges were filed for a couple of reasons:

1 - the DA knew he couldn't win the case
2 - the DA's track record is that he is very light on non-violent crimes, so by not filing here he is being consistent with his 26+ year history in his current role in that location

The only answer I'm looking for is where did this DA attend college and law school.

there is a difference in being "light" on non-violent crime and not any enforcement. I really expected some plea bargaining to lesser stuff and they walk anyway. But to say a bag of dope and a stolen gun warranted no charges is a complete pile of crap. If that had been me I would still be in prison...

if the search was bad, then no it's not a load of crap. The DA would have had no case. However, the comments he made were ridiculous

Where someone went to school means nothing, considering the majority of bama fans never finished high school. this is not relevant.

I wish there was a website you could go to and type in something like "jerry jones monroe la law school" and the website would deliver links to other websites that might have the answer. Maybe some day

What does the job pay? If it is a livable wage, he may just be doing it because he can't do anything else. If it is below livable, he's on the take.

Simple explanation for a lot of politics.

Jerry Jones was one of the top criminal defense attorneys in north Louisiana before he was elected DA so he's quite capable of doing something else. Not sure what the office pays. Pretty decent I would think but not nearly what he could make in private practice. His wife is a doctor so they are pretty solid financially.

Alright. If it will make you feel better:

quote:

Jerry Jones is a graduate of Northeast Louisiana University and Tulane Law School, who has been a practicing trial attorney for the past 37 years. He currently serves at the district attorney for Morehouse and Ouachita Parishes, a position he has held since 1991. Jones serves on a long list of community organizations, including the Louisiana District Attorney’s Association Board, the Legislative Committee, the Drug Asset Recovery Team and the Governor’s Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention Board. In addition, he was presented the National Football League Alumni Association’s “Difference Maker Award for the Legends and Kids Program.”

Sounds like a decent guy. But, because he didn't send 2 Alabama football players to jail, he should lose his job.

For him to have been elected to 5-6 consecutive terms, the last one basically unchallenged, the folks in the area must trust him.

If he saw fit to no pursue the charges against the 2 Bama players then he must have felt like the evidence to convict wasn't very solid.

Now, his comments in the aftermath were just illogical and ill thought. Maybe that's common for LA folks? IDK?
