Why does he get so much hate? Saw a thread where a lot of arky fans were saying Bert inherited a "dumpster fire" and that he was an awful coach.

Seemed like kind of an a-hole to me but also had some very good seasons at Arkansas.

Most Hawg fans attribute the "dumpster fire" to Bert following the Jawnell debacle and Bobby's lack of recruiting, not that he was an awful coach.

Petrino's a dick but so are many other really good coaches. He just couldn't keep is dick out of the strange, he laid down the Harley, lied to his boss and it cost him his job.

Not sure anybody really believes that. I don't think he recruited well, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Didn't he have a staggering number of receivers on the roster when he left?

He can pick a defense apart. There is no doubt about that, but I don't think he will ever build a long term program. He surrounds himself with yes men for assistant coaches. His recruiting is not good for 2 reasons. He doesn't recruit the best talent, and position wise he is all over the place. He may have twice as many receivers as he needs and not enough linemen.

If he can ever stay at one place long enough we will see, but I think he has too many shortcomings to overcome.

The main problem is he wants to control every detail of the program and the only thing he does well is offense. Everything else suffers recruiting, defense, coaching staff, and every other aspect besides the offense.

He's one of the best X's & O's offensive coaches, IMHO. He hasn't proven he can run a big program and win consistently.

But that's no different than a lot of coaches right now in college football. We've got to wait & see if these guys in the long term are in over their heads trying to coach big time college ball.

Bobby can coach, but he did not recruit well. The dumpster fire was because we lost a year of recruiting during the failed JLS experiment. I will say that even though Bobby is a great gameday coach he still has not proven that he can sustain a program.

Do you think it's a lack of trust issue with him? I mean he obviously is not a trustworthy individual....so could that be why he feels he can't trust his staff to take the reigns and do their job? IDK - just a thought.

Hell, Saban is an OCD micromanager that wants his thumb on the entire operation.

Why does he get so much hate? He embarrassed the whole program nationally with his indiscretions.

That's enough.

It might have been different if he had been well-liked by those who had to work with him. He was almost universally disliked by people who had to work with him.

He's a great playcaller, but apparently an awful human being for the most part. And the whole wrecking a motorcycle with sidepiece thing was kind of a deal-breaker. We don't have a REC to cover shite like that up.

Probably because he's an a-hole and most good coaches would rather coach for a HC that isn't one.

Almost all of his assistants were yes men and haven't done much since then. So he had to have control over most things.

The difference is that Saban is good at every aspect of the program. Petrino is an offensive genius, but sucks in almost every other aspect of running a program.

For example, the 2010 recruiting class:

Quite the hit rate.

This is pretty much it. The timing of his firing, left few options for hiring a coach and thus J L Smith was hired. Two years of no recruiting did leave the program in a bad spot.

I did not want Petrino to be fired, and wish they could have worked things out. Petrino was/is a jerk, but as someone else stated, this is often the truth with good coaches.

I do think Bielema will, long term, be better for Arkansas football than Petrino would have been.

He is one of the best play callers I've ever seen. He walked into a situation where he had a gunslinger for a QB and the best state class of WRs we've ever had.

He can't recruit nor does he try.
I think he would be better in the NFL just coaching talent.

The Falcons might disagree with you. Of course he lost his prize player to dogfighting before he ever coached a game, so who knows.
More suited to be an NFL OC. I think that's what he was doing when we hired him.
