...or any school that has a really nice swimming facility. What is it, what did it cost to build, and who built it for you?

TIA

Pool is part of a large rec center that was built in 2005, so hard to break out just the pool, but the whole thing was $63mm. Best part is the lazy river, great hangover therapy.

actual pool:

Both Mizzou's and UGA's are very nice. I'm guessing that if UGA were to build that Natatorium today, it would prolly be around the $63 million that Mizzou paid for theirs.

Thanks for these responses. I was wondering what it was going to cost for LSU to get something better than the one we have now, which was built in 1985.

As the resident college swimmer I have no idea on any of this. What is this for exactly? It could help me address the underlying question more thoroughly...

Alabama's Natatorium might just be the worst looking building on campus now (with the endless renovations recently). We could seriously use a new one

LSU is expanding our comparable rec center, the UREC, but a new natatorium isn't part of that, unfortunately...

....

LSU UREC

...oh how I wish it was.

I just wanted some financial perspective in today's dollars how much a replacement for the LSU Natatorium would cost.

If you look at past rounds of Tiger Athletic Fund (TAF) facility upgrades/construction, there is one major high-dollar project around $75-100 million, one or two projects around one third to one half of the high dollar project, and a couple of projects around a million to two million.

I wanted to get a feel for what slot a swimming facility would go into in light of the above. The new SEZ addition to Tiger Stadium was the featured project in the last round.

Oh I bet I know one uglier...

Way past time for a replacement...

Ours is worse. It opened in 1981 and is so ugly there isn't even a picture of it on the internet (not that I can find). I had to screenshot it from Google Maps

Sorry about the removal... I realized I was signed in to my google account

There is literally no way that's true. I'm the biggest sunshine pumper there is when it comes to my school, and this has to be the worst structure of it's type for any major university.

You can see the outside from the inside through some of the cracks in the mortar. And it's not air conditioned.

Think about that...Baton Rouge..spring sport...no AC.

It might be. At least ours is kinda tucked away behind some trees but it's still at a major intersection. Both are terrible and the athletic departments should be ashamed they're so far behind because there's more than enough money so long as we don't keep buying the football team golden arse-scratchers

Well in their defense, they are catering to the money-making programs. But it's really shocking to me how far behind LSU is in terms of a swimming facility.

It's no wonder Les Miles's daughter Smacker is swimming for the University of Texas instead of at LSU.

Yeah, I know. I just sometimes hate the fact that there's such a thing as a "money-making program" in college sports. Especially the consequences of there being money-making programs

Well that's another thread. I knew LSU's natatorium was bad, I just didn't realize how bad.

Time to break out the Abita...
