Do you consider LSU and "elite" program? If so, we should be able to attract an "elite" coach correct?

Second tier job and program. Ohio St, Texas, Alabama, USC are first tier.

L5U is in the group with Florida, Oklahoma, Michigan, Oregon and some others maybe.

Elite, as in Charlie Weiss, maybe.

Actually I agree what has been posted so far. Our fan base has a somewhat distorted view of reality most times.

LSU falls in the "elite potential" category to me.

LSU, Georgia, Florida, Texas, Texas A&M

Schools where there are great resources (talent, resources, etc) and it has been proven you can win big there (it isn't just a pie in the sky idea), but there isn't history of 2-3 elite guys winning there, which makes you wonder if it was the program or the coach.

My "elite" jobs would be

Alabama, Oklahoma, USC, Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame

Multiple coaches (more than 2 at most of these) have been able to establish themselves as one of the 2-3 elite programs nationally for a decade or so, proving that the school has whatever it is in place to be elite.

No. Elite fringe trying to break through.

No. A homerun hire like Saban hardly ever happens, anywhere. There is very little chance you will get one. Florida didn't get one, though it's working out. Texas didn't get one. USC didn't get one. It took Bama four tries. Basically, a coach can't be considered great until he's established at a major program, and coaches that reach that point don't leave often.

I wouldn't suggest that LSU is elite, but, you are relevant and have been for 13 years. I think getting rid of Miles would be a huge mistake. He's the only thing keeping all of the Elite talent in Louisiana. It hasn't even happened yet, and your QB from 2016 decomitted today. Besides, Miles has won an average of 9.8 games per year since he's been there. That is impressive. In that time, he has amassed 3 division crowns, 2 SEC Titles, and 2 Natty appearances with 1 win.

Summer, I agree with the 6 programs you consider elite. The W-L numbers don't tell the full story to our fan base. As an outsider, it may be perceived as Miles is gone because he can't beat Bama. Almost everybody can't beat Bama. It's the losing to the Ole Miss, Arkansas etc when there is something major on the line that has finally led to where we are at.

To add---We have money. We have great facilities. If history repeats itself though, we try to go on the cheap when we hire a new coach. Miles is gone. No putting the genie back in the bottle here. My fear is we won't get a guy as good as him because we won't be willing to spend the money it takes.

Ok, while we re being honest. Do LSU fans really believe this team is a HC away from being great?

The team ive watched the past 3 games is getting zero push from the oline and its defense is being pushed around upfront as well. Just saying imo its not all coaching. Im sure the loss of the FB and TE don't help either but this team isn't ready right now.

You have no vested interest in our program so I don't think you can objectively say whether or not we do or do not have talent especially if your judgment is strictly confined to the past three games.

And actually everyone I work with -all diehard LSU- said the same thing, that these last games would tell them where they really were.

And Im not saying you don't have talent, im saying there are big holes on this team. mainly in the trenches. You have very good wrs, LF7 is a beast but the defense is ... well put it this way, Treon harris had his best game against it. And hes terrible.
