LSU had a top 20 match up with Florida on national television and got called out by Verne Lundquist, Anthony Johnson and Les Miles for the stadium not being full and the crowd being lethargic. The student section never filled up. The upper decks were hit or miss. There were chunks of high dollar seats open the entire games. Now, here's list of excuses currently being posted on the rant by fans that either didn't go or left early:

It was too hot
Traffic is too bad leaving the stadium
Parking is bad
Concessions suck
Game was boring
Their HDTV at home is a better experience
Tickets too expensive
Alabama fatigue meaning the fans only care about the Bama game now (yes, some idiot actually suggested this)
Can't buy beer
Don't like the music played over the PA
LSU doesn't do a good enough job using their video board

I won't make excuses because it is unacceptable and embarrassing, but these stupid 2:30 CBS games really kill Death Valley period. That game at 7:00pm would have been a completely different scene.

This is going to be the legit problem going forward. Everything else can be mitigated.

If the A&M/LSU game isnt sold out it will absolutely be ticket prices. I want to go but Im not gonna drop 1000 dollars for a regular season college game with no NC implications.

I didn't think it was that bad when I was in the stadium but when I watched in on my DVR the next day the crowd shots were bad. They stopped showing the NEZ from the field because of the gaping hole in the top of the student section. I just don't get it. The tickets are being bought by somebody. Just donate the shite if you're just going to let them go to waste.

The pass out rule needs to go. That's most of the problem. Let people go out and get lathered up at halftime, and then come back.

I wrote my senior paper about the effects of HD Tv and the internet on football attendance. Lots of people prefer to stay home because if you're at the game you only get one perspective. If you watch on tv they have dozens of camera angles.

Perhaps it kills LSU attendance wise, but the lack of attendance is hitting everybody. Hell, last year I couldn't blame people for not showing up at JHS, it was a total shite show, but we have a critical game against OM and the seats aren't full.
I think the biggest reason for people not showing up is the fact that every game is televised. It's a lot easier to watch a game at home, on the HDTV, than to sit out in the heat or rain for some people. Frankly, I'll keep going to games until I am physically unable, I love being in the stadium.

In a nutshell, we are an increasingly pampered and spoiled society and going to games can be challenging in some respects so a lot of people don't bother.

We also have more entertainment options than ever before including the above mentioned incredible HDTV experience.

Some it at Bama is the secondary ticket prices. Joe buys season tickets, but only intends on going to 3 or 4 games. So to recoup some of the Tide Pride contribution, he sets his price on tickets he's not going to use high. The price is too high for the game, and there are no buyers at that level. Buyers give up finding a reasonably priced ticket, and Joe waits too late to lower the price. Happens almost every home game that Craigslist, Facebook, etc are flooded with people selling extras.

2 weeks ago Arkansas tickets were around $150 each for decent seats. I've seen two posts this morning that were face value.

A&M's not having this problem

I think it's a combination of the home theater experience is getting so much better and ticket prices either rising or recession hangover issues.

Texas A&M's expansion is incredibly shortsighted and outdated, instead of increasing the capacity they should have just increased the amenities and the suites. Right now the nice but smaller stadiums are in, as evidenced by Baylor's plans and Washington's new stadium.

People that can afford suites will still go, but a person making $30,000 a year will be more inclined to stay home and watch on tv instead of fighting the crowds and sitting asses to elbows with 110,000 other people. They are going to have a serious problem filling that stadium.

And amazingly you will be able to buy them for $20 bucks outside the stadium on Saturday. This is true for all but the biggest of games.

Actually I feel as though uga has been excellent this year by hey took away a significant portion of student tickets and started a young alumni program which has helped. Also the team has really stressed getting there earlier which has helped. Big, close home games have helped, but I was pretty shocked by how many stuck around in the pouring rain until the end of north Texas. They have also started reselling the tickets that students turn back in to the public at large. It also helps that while tailgating us a big part of game day in Athens, it isn't as much of a cultural end all be all as it is at lsu and ole miss. It is pretty easy to grab a bite to eat pregame in downtown and then walk to the stadium. Not sure how that is at some stadiums.

LSU game day management does nothing but piss off fans both inside and outside the stadium. After this past Saturday, I completely understand why people are choosing to stay home.
I can deal with the heat, but dammit, dont run out fricking water in the second qrt. during a day game.
