Question about Kiffin for Bama fans

Does anyone know whether Kiffin was told that he would not be retained next year, and thus had to find employment else where? It just doesn't make since for him to take such a shitty job when he was one of the highest paid assistant coaches in the country.

Kiffin was told to F AU and he did. End of story.

This.
His contract had not been renewed, but nobody knows if he really was forced out or simply wanted a HC job and was waiting on to see if he got one before addressing a new deal at Bama.

The weather would be a plus but there is too much crime for me to live in South Florida.

Don't know and don't believe most of what I read from "insiders".
I do however know that Saban is going to LA next year.
Oh, thank you Lane for three quality years!

Only 2 people know and Saban and Kiffin aren't on here. It has been Saban's MO to allow a coach to look for and take another job without coming out and saying he fired him. Applewhite after '07 "took" the RB position at Texas. Lance Thompson (twice) is another example. There were "issues" each time but Saban allowed them to save face and not publically fire them.
I always thought this was short term and that Kiffin wanted to rehab his image and become a HC again. "Things" may have played out that led or encouraged the departure for ANY job.

Yes he was. His contract was not extended. Not because he is a horrible person or coach but things just ran their course. It was time. The fact two people on completely different ends of the personality spectrum had a functional working relationship this long was the best Alabama could have hoped for.

How would we know? There is speculation that he was told that, but who knows other than Kiffin and Saban?

Yes he was. His contract was not extended.

Well he said in his FAU press conference he was coming back if he didn't get a head coaching job.

Dude has more money than he can ever spend. More rings as an assistant than anyone else. It was probably just an issue of being bored, and wanting the challenge of being a HC. In reality, he talked someone into paying him a 1 MM per year to coach a game and live in south Florida. Going to be an assistant at LSU gave him nothing new.

Phil Savage has said several times that there is no way that he was going to be back at Alabama. Sexton was told by Saban to find LK another job. Had he taken an SEC job, he would have been shown the door immediately and not allowed to coach in the playoff because Saban doesn't want a repeat of last year with his former DC now Georgia coach that went sour. In case you do not know who Phil Savage is, he is the color commentator for the Tide, the Director of the Senior Bowl, a former NFL scout, and ESPN analyst, is on XM a lot, and is as well connected to the Crimson Tide as anyone except the coaches themselves. So, you can believe LK or you can see the writing on the wall about his contract, SARK being on campus, and Saban's ways. It is pretty obvious and also specifically stated by many people close to the program including Phil Savage.

No one seems to have considered this, but LSU was, by their own account, set to pay him twice what FAU gave. I wonder if he wasn't, in some small way, giving the finger to his ex.
His alimony will likely be cut to about 25% of what it was when the divorce was settled and he was still getting USC money. Plus, he gets to be a head coach.
Most of us thought he had matured, but holding a grudge is very much something the old Lane would do.

Phil earlier this week wasnt sure he would be hired away at that point and also stated if he did he wouldnt coach for the playoffs in general, no matter the team. he seemed state it quite a bit different than your interpretation

Good for you. IT is not different than what I said he said many times except that the nuance that you are saying Phil said more recently that he would not be coaching Alabama offense anymore period. So, what is really different? What I said, Phil has said many times. It is evident that the Auburn coloring books didn't teach you very good reading skills.

All I know is what Kiffin said to the media. When asked if staying at Bama was an option for 2017, he said it was.Maybe he's lieing, i can't say. I am sure he was hoping for a better job, but he is a head coach again, in fertile recruiting area as well. No, it's not the Raiders, USC, or UT, but he learned how Saban does things and Saban learned his offense. Seems like a fair trade to me. There is another thing I haven't seen anybody consider. Maybe it is mutual. Maybe they are sick of each other after 3 years.
