Question about Freeze and those coaches that wear their faith so openly

Someone will have to explain this to me in terms of one Coach Hugh Freeze:
Why does one that espouse Christianity and living for God somehow forget a major tenant of the faith seemingly so easily...though shall not lie? Then undoubtedly once caught you always see said person further espousing their Christian faith in an effort to beg for forgiveness as though they just lost their way.
Doesn't it make you wonder if a lot of what Freeze was selling by using his faith was all just a ruse?
Spare me the he without sin cast the first stone argument.
Bottom line: I am and will always be leery of those that wear their religion on their sleeve and are so public about their faith. Those are the people that usually end up being full of shite the most. This holds especially true when it comes to sports.

Matthew 6: 1-8 will give you some clarity.

Richt doesn't go around like a preacher invoking God and Jesus at every turn while st the same time trying to lie and cheat to win a game.

People who wear their faith openly but don't practice what they preach are no better than the Pharisees. I'm not going to judge freeze on his faith but remember that Jesus blessed the meek and spoke out against the hypocrits.

Depends on their intent. If their intent is to be seen by others, then yes, they're FOS Biblically speaking.
Francis of Assisi nailed it: "preach the gospel. If necessary, use words."

Everyone lies, even the heavily faithful.

We see so many "religious" people violate the core values of their faith on a daily basis, knowing they are doing wrong. We see so many "religious" people weep for those that have passed, when they should be thrilled, because their loved one is now in eternal paradise.
I just don't think that many people really belive in anything supernatural. It's all an act.

I say this as a practicing Christian who is active in the church.
A Christian will screw you first.
If someone wears it on their sleeve or has it as part of their business name, stay away. Martin Luther said that the Christian shoemaker doesn't show that he is a Christian by sewing crosses into his shoes, he does so by making good shoes.

This.
You always hear people claim the put their life in gods hands but these same people buckle their seatbelts when they get in a car or take medication when they are sick.
If you truly believed that everything that happens is "gods will" then you would take none of these precautions because simply buckling your seatbelt is not going to save you if god has decided it is your time to go and contrary to that, if he decided it wasn't your time to go, you could run head on into a train and come out unharmed.
I find it the same as people who believe praying can heal people and give some stupid example of how their church prayed for little Billy to be cured of his cancer and it happened. Alright then... Tell me, why the frick has no one in history EVER miraculously regrow lost limbs? Are you telling me god can cure cancer but struggles with re growing body parts?

2 Corinthians 5:20 “Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”
There are various verses in the Bible that tell us that God expects us to become His disciples and witness to others.
Freeze is just a man like us all....very imperfect. I don't doubt his faith, but like us all, he fails miserably at being a good Christian.....THANK GOD FOR HIS GRACE!!

It could all just be an act.

If god just gave people a new arm every time they lost one no one's faith would EVER get tested.

My biggest problem is that he acted and spoke as if Christians couldn't and wouldn't do wrong. We all sin. Good or Bad Christians...

Freeze is a snake oil salesman but that's such a dumb point. Literally the entire point of the Christian religion is that everybody fricks up.

Though I'm not religious, I can tolerate those Christian folks who witness to others. In fact, they come across as really good people and I enjoy their company.
It's the slimy evangelicals who want to force their religion upon others through governmental action that get me all riled up. I just don't understand their mindsets, I suppose. Coaches, politicians and other public figures who invoke their faith as part of their jobs are doing a disservice to the stand-up Christians who fulfill their evangelical duty to offer the Word as a gift, not a commandment.
