Tennessee fans,

Has it ever bothered you that the refs missed a potential game-saving penalty in the 2009 game (sorry to bring up the Kiffin years)? When Mount Cody blocked his 2nd field goal, he ripped his helmet off celebrating well before the ball was recovered and called dead. Even though you were already 1/3 on field goals before the block, this could have given you the chance to re-kick at a much closer distance and beat the #1 team.

Mounty Cody

I have no ties to this rivalry whatsoever and couldn't care less about who wins, but I watched this game and have always wondered why the penalty was never called.

It still would have been Alabama's ball.

Holy shite

But in all seriousness, it was brought up a lot when it happened, but it doesn't matter. We could've kicked that from the goal line and it would've hit the center's arse. Lincoln was notorious for kicking low.

I remember about a 25 yard field goal against Vandy where Lincoln did the same thing. Wasn't remotely close to clearing the Vandy lineman.

Defensive penalty before the play is over? You're wrong my friend. Tennessee gets to re-kick.

This was debunked a thousand times after the game in 2009.

You know, the NCAA football rule book is available online. Why ask us?

Well for those of us who weren't glued to the board after the game, care to explain how it was debunked? Cody took off the helmet, ball is still live, ref is pointing to the ball showing players so they can recover.

Seriously, I have a ridiculous memory when it comes to random shite and this is something I always think about when this game rolls around.

What, were you 12 years old at the time?

As was pointed out ad nauseum at the time, this would have been an unsportsmanlike conduct foul enforced after the play ended. The play would have stood.

Thank you. I honestly never saw this mentioned because I wasn't addicted to TD back then. Still don't understand why the penalty would have been after the play ended as the play had yet to end, but now I know the explanation behind it.

Unsportsmanlike Conduct is enforced as a dead ball foul even if it occurs during a live ball situation. Thus, had the refs thrown the flag it would have been result of the play plus 15 yards.

Result of the play: Bama ball and the end of the game.

You don't have to be addicted to TD to google the fricking NCAA rulebook.

No shite, which is why I remember a single play from a game 6 years ago which I had no ties to. Thanks for pointing that out...

Because the rulebook explicitly says "If committed while the ball is alive, these fouls are treated as dead-ball fouls."
