Props to Coach Mainieri for walking Spanburger at the right times.

I think he did it perfectly, unlike Cannizaro, who walked Deichman without any rhyme or reason.

He made a judgment call. It worked.

Had it not worked or he pitched to him and it didn't work, he would have gotten grief. I'm ok with it.

Actually, it was. The odds of a hot Spanberger winning it with a three-run HR were larger than the cold guy behind him driving in the winning run from first with the bases loaded.

Mainieri also played the righty-right matchup instead of taking his changes with the lefty-right matchup.

If anything, this kind of thing should be done more often. Why let the other guy's best player have a chance to beat you?

Bonfield was pretty terrible all tournament. Should have made the pitcher work more his last AB.

You guys are blinded from watching Les make terrible decision after terrible decision and it working out. There is no way he did the smartest thing by the numbers there, but again, it worked.

Don't know how I can make this any clearer, what's more likely to happen? A .300 hitter hitting a single or a power hitter hitting his 6th Homer in 3 days?

He would have tied it with a double, or gotten within one with a single. You are leaving those possiblities out of your equation. The fact is, is that he was super hot. The hitter behind him wasn't.

Good night.

You're wrong, but it worked. Had it not worked it would have been a monumental mistake. Had he pitched to the guy and he hit another homerun, you just tip your cap.

There is a difference

I think we had more confidence in Spannberger than Arky fans did.

I would have walked him, as did the LSU coach. I have a feeling your coach would have too, as would have most coaches.

Who cares what lefty08 thinks? You are just a character on the internet....you aren't even real.

He was smart enough to beat your team. STFU.
Let go of your childish jealousy; grow up.

The absolute sickest ending to this day would have been Spamburger hitting a walk off whopper to win.

Bravo CPM!

Arkansas fans, Who did you want to bat there? Spanberger or Bonfield?

The answer says which was the smarter choice.

I use this same logic when teams go for it on 4th down. When I'm relieved the other team punted, it's usually a sign that they should have gone for it.

When Span came to the plate I had flashbacks of McCann's 3-run walk-off jack against LSU

Damn you Mainieri for robbing me of my deja vu

Arkansas' strategy of scoring less than LSU wasn't smart, and it didn't work out for them.
