Progression of the Woman's Game

After watching the Final Four in WB this weekend (only complete games watched), I am disappointed in the progression the woman have made the last 25 years. The woman are taller and better outside shooters, but the game still seems slow and lumbersome. Compare the advancement in play with woman's softball and soccer since they were introduced into the SEC, and it seems Basketball is being left in the dust.

I forget that Auburn even has a women's basketball team.

Women's basketball is unwatchable

I tried to watch the game last night because of the SEC matchup. Made it less than two minutes than switched it to a Star Trek rerun. Awful.

Yes, they can shoot, but so can the kids on my middle schooler's team. Everything is just awkward and slow.

My friend made a good point one time. The worst men's high school team in the country would beat the best college women's basketball team.
I tend to agree.

I highly highly doubt that, but a decent/competitive varsity boys team would probably beat this year's USCe team with ease. The worst Div-1 mens basketball team would probably beat them by 30-50 points.

Congrats to the Lady 'Cocks!

That is a tired line. Who cares? They're different sports.

It's the same argument that the Williams sisters think they could beat the best Men's tennis players.
They tried it once. They played a sub-top 300 player. He was drunk and drinking during the match and he handled both of them with ease.
Even the worst high school men's basketball team will outsize the best college women's team. Could they outshoot them? Probably not, but they would block all of their shots so the women wouldn't be able to score.

But why make the argument? To say that the sport shouldn't exist?
Men who play at an equal level (college vs. college, pro vs. pro) will always be able to easily beat their women counterparts. Ok, then.
I just don't get what the conclusion is supposed to be. B/c this is so, women's sports shouldn't exist?

It's bad...but not as bad as softball.

There are some really bad HS boys teams out there. There are teams out there with like 7 players total, all under 6', and a volunteer part-time coach.
A reasonably competitive HS team probably beats UConn though.

I'm just trying to say just how bad women's basketball is.
At least in other sports, the gap is a little closer.

It's just because the comparison can be made. They play by essentially the same rules. People make the comparison in soccer, tennis, etc.
It couldn't happen due to cost issues involved, but women's basketball should really be played on a smaller court to account for differences in size and speed. That isn't mean as a slight, but it would realistically lead to a better game.

Softball use to consist of only 1-0 games and the only hits were from slaps. The game today is nothing like it, and that was only 5-10 years ago.

Gymnastics, volleyball, soccer, track....
The gap is closer, all I am saying. Of course on the same level the men would always destroy the women at those sports. But the gap in basketball is huge.

It wouldn't exist if not for Title IX, at least not in the sense of these big-time tournaments and TV games. It would be small time like soccer and softball. It's become THE women's sport, but no one watches it.
There HAS to be a main women's sport, and the media chose basketball, much to our chagrin.
