to hire a guy with zero head coaching experience.

Could work out, or it could flop of course but you would have thought they'd have more of a sure thing in mind when showing Richt the door.

Must have really wanted him out.

Mizzou hands Smart his first SEC loss.

I'm meh on the hire. Depends on the OC / DC coordinator hires at this point.

I also find it interesting they hired a DC with a lackluster offense.

It's a solid downgrade.

Don't be butthurt. I wasn't flaming you. Just surprised you didn't pull off something a little "better" is all.

I don't understand this at all, but who knows, it might work out for them. It's strange.

I don't think it's a bad hire. Just sort of boring with a fair amount of risk. I just don't really see Smart as the guy who will take UGA from complacency to extreme competitiveness.

When Kirby Smart shows up at a recruits house he shows up wearing 4 National Title rings and a fricking already damn good roster in place. He has every fricking advantage available for a first time head coach. If he can't win at Georgia he can't win anywhere.

My guess, he will win plenty.

He could win, of course. He could also flop. That's kind of the point.

I'm sure he'll recruit just fine but that will never be a problem at Georgia.

You can say this about basically any head coach they would have hired.

He knows Georgia recruiting like the back of his hand. So he already hits the ground running. Now he just needs to find a good OC hire.

Exactly, Kirby Smart was a homerun hire. He is coming from a coaching tree that has literally dominated college football for a decade.

frick that, cudos to them for wanting to be great and not settling.

Its a gamble, might pay off it might not.

But at least they tried.
