Preseason pollls are not only worthless, but they demonstrate ignorance.

There is no rational explanation for the preseason hype of Auburn and its special needs quarterback. None. "It's a Gus Malzahn offense" is not a rational basis. People who ranked Auburn so highly really had no idea what they would look like.
And the only reason Alabama was ranked no. 2 was reputation and past performance. Those inside the program knew the offense was not going to be very good. But Saban! Rings! Roll Tide! Sportswriters and people trying to sell magazines know nothing, and I'm glad they look ignorant.
Ignorant.

Rankings should not come out until mid October

I have said my whole life the first polls should be in october.
I know itll never happen though. Media needs to talk about rankings

Polls should not come out until October . If that happened it would be a better barometer of where each team is . But then you wouldn't have any polls in August for street and smith , Phil Steele, SI etc etc . So they wouldn't sell any mags

But in the end, those guys just have no idea. Auburn is a hot mess. Maybe not even fixable.
A lot of "pundits" had them in the playoff. A LOT.

It's a guess. It's no different from any other year.

The problem isn't that the polls exist preseason and early on, Polls generate buzz and conversation and therefore have a purpose.
The problem is people do not properly apply increasing confidence in polls the way they should. The preseason poll should be weighted no more than an amusement. A poll in November should have a helluva lot more weight in peoples minds.

I agree with you about the polls are shite and especially early. If they were willing to shake up the polls big time early in the year until they get a feel of the teams, then I wouldn't have such a problem with them.
we are
I still believe we are. A quarterback playing really inept brings the entire team down on both sides of the ball. It is tough to play defense when you know you can't score points.

Pre-season polls do suck arse. The issue is that people don't want to admit that they were wrong about their views of a team heading into a season.
Just look at the idiot McMurphy who still put Auburn in his final 4 after their game against Jacksonville State and the reason he gave to defend it: "I don't give up on my picks from pre-sason."
That right there tells you all that you need to know.
